About me and my therapy practice
Today’s world moves fast and it’s easy to lose ourselves in the rush of daily life. Therapy offers an opportunity to slow down and reconnect with your own self. Throughout my work, I encourage honesty as it allows us to engage in the therapy at the most genuine level that we can. Though at it’s core, the sessions will be led by you as a space to use however you need to. Therapy can be challenging but we will only go where you feel comfortable to explore, there’s never a requirement to talk about a specific thing.
My previous experience is in parental support, working with a children's mental health charity, including being a single parent as well as the overlap of neurodivergent experiences. Though I work with all adult clients over the age of 18, with a range of challenges and difficulties such as: depression, anxiety; stress; trauma; LGBTQ+ and identity issues; sex, intimacy and kink; anger; bereavement and any other issues you wish to bring.
Practice description
My training is integrative, meaning I have a "toolbox" of different types of therapy to adapt to what suits you best. One of the main ways I work is with psychodynamic therapy, which allows us to look at your past to understand how that is affecting your present. This thinks about how the different relationships of your life, both past and present, impact the way you think, feel and interact with others.
I also find internal family systems to be very useful, which considers people to be made up of different parts with different purposes, each having their own relationship like a family. Ultimately, the way we work comes from our collaboration and what suits you best.
My first session
I offer a free introductory, 20 minute session, where we cover your expectations and I can start get a sense for what has brought you to therapy and you get the opportunity to get an idea about how I work as well.
Though in the first session I will be asking you questions, getting an idea of your experiences and what brought you here. It is also an opportunity for you to ask me questions as well, about how I work, what therapy involves or what the expectations are.
After that, if you choose to continue, the sessions will be your space to talk about whatever is on your mind, in an honest and confidential space. Each session lasts 50 minutes and ideally will be scheduled for the same time each week.
