About me and my therapy practice
Jo Oldershaw Counselling & Trauma Therapist
Taking the leap of faith to start therapy can feel so scary, I understand, and I am here to support you in your healing journey.
Are you struggling and feeling lost?
Life can feel so overwhelming for many reasons, we can feel isolated and alone, angry and that no one understands. if you need some warm, non-judgmental guidance then I look forward to meeting you.
I offer a calm, safe, compassionate space where you can feel truly heard, supported, and understood. I believe deeply in the healing potential of therapy and the power of having a safe, non-judgemental environment to explore the challenges life can bring—whether they are recent experiences or something you have been carrying for many years.
As a fully qualified integrative psychotherapist, working with adults aged 18 upwards, I tailor my approach to meet your individual needs, drawing on a range of therapeutic methods to support you in a way that feels right for you.
My work is affirming, inclusive, and centred around meeting you where you are. I also have a holistic background, centred around meditation and breathing regulation to manage feeling triggered, if this is something that you may want to explore.
Practice description
I specialise in working with trauma and abuse, and I have experience supporting clients through a wide range of experiences, including domestic violence, accidents/ traumatic incidents, physical and sexual assault, childhood and adult sexual abuse, sibling sexual abuse and other forms of sexual violence, for the survivor and also clients who are related to or connected with survivors of sexual violence.
I also work with the impact of PTSD and the complexities of navigating life during and after trauma.
Alongside my private practice, I work within a rape crisis centre, offering one-to-one support and facilitating trauma groups. My aim is to increase survivors knowledge, understanding and awareness on how our brains and bodies react and respond when experiencing trauma. This has deepened my understanding of how trauma can affect every part of life, as well as the strength and resilience people carry within them.
I understand that reaching out for support can feel daunting. My aim is to walk alongside you at your own pace, offering a space where you can begin to process, make sense of your experiences, and move towards healing in a way that feels safe and empowering for you.
