About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Rhian.

You may be considering therapy because you're  feeling overwhelmed, down, or stuck - or uncertain of the way forward.

Or perhaps you’re listening to your gut instinct that life could be  better, or feel more real.

Whatever you bring, it's welcome.

I offer a space dedicated to you. For you to explore your experiences, work out what you need and what you could change - if that is what you wish.

I  value working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and all gender identities and sexualities. I have worked with clients:

● who are anxious, and depressed

● experiencing relationship or work-based stress

● recovering from drug and alcohol dependency

● living with long-term health conditions/disabilities/neurodivergence

● living with the impact of abuse and trauma

● exploring their identities and experiences of discrimination

● with experiences of complex bereavement, grief and loss

As well as my private practice, I provide counselling on a  voluntary basis for a national  charity supporting clients recovering from alcohol and drug dependency and their families.

Before working as a therapist, I worked for charities, campaigning with diverse groups of people to change unjust government policies. This experience helps me to work inclusively with clients from a range of backgrounds.

Practice description

We start from wherever you are and I approach therapy as a partnership between us.

I see you as the expert on your unique life experience. I can support you to explore it - at your pace, in your way.

I do this by listening to you in confidence. I don’t push advice or techniques at you. I offer you my reflections with empathy and non-judgment - and  you are free to accept my reflections, or not.

I aim to make you feel safe and appreciated with me as research shows this is what we need to get the most out of therapy.

In turn therapy can support us to have a better helping relationship to ourselves.

My first session

I offer an initial online or phone consultation of up to 20 minutes free of charge to  see if we are a good fit for each other. There's no obligation to go ahead with me.

If you decide to do so, I'll offer you an opportunity for a fuller assessment of your needs in your first session.

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes, usually held weekly.

You may choose to attend short-term, perhaps for a few weeks, or longer term. I don't lock you into any time commitment.

I offer  remote and in-person therapy as research shows both are effective. Whichever you choose, I will prioritise your confidentiality, privacy and safety in line with the BACP's ethical code and the data protection laws.
