About me and my therapy practice
Choosing to come to therapy can feel like a big step. You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed or stuck, noticing that you're repeating the same patterns in your thoughts, emotions or relationships. Whatever has brought you here, my aim is to provide a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you feel heard, understood and supported.
I believe that every person's story is unique. While we can't always change what has happened to us, we can develop a better understanding of how our experiences have shaped the way we think, feel and respond to the world today. Often, the difficulties we experience are not signs that something is "wrong" with us, but understandable patterns that have developed over time. Therapy offers an opportunity to explore those patterns with curiosity rather than criticism and develop new ways of responding.
My practice is grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based approach that helps identify the links between our thoughts, emotions, behaviours and physical responses. I work collaboratively with clients to understand what is maintaining their difficulties and develop practical strategies for meaningful, lasting change. While CBT provides the foundation of my work, I tailor therapy to your individual needs, goals and pace.
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, perfectionism, emotional overwhelm, grief, relationship difficulties and life transitions. Whether you're facing a specific challenge or simply feel stuck, therapy can help you better understand yourself and move forward with greater confidence and self-compassion.
My hope is that therapy leaves you with more than temporary relief. I want you to leave with a deeper understanding of yourself and practical skills that continue to support you long after therapy has ended.
Practice description
I understand that starting therapy can feel daunting, particularly if it's your first experience of counselling. My priority is to create a safe, supportive and collaborative environment where you can talk openly, at your own pace, without fear of judgement.
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll explore what has brought you to therapy, what you would like to achieve and whether I'm the right therapist for you. Together, we'll develop a shared understanding of your difficulties and agree on goals that feel realistic and meaningful.
As therapy progresses, we'll explore the links between your thoughts, emotions, behaviours and life experiences, identifying patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Alongside developing insight, we'll work on practical strategies and skills that you can apply in everyday life. I believe therapy is most effective when it combines understanding with action, helping you make changes that feel achievable and sustainable.
I work collaboratively throughout the therapeutic process. Rather than telling you what to do, I'll support you in making sense of your experiences, developing new perspectives and building confidence in your own ability to navigate life's challenges. Sessions are tailored to your individual needs, and we will regularly review your progress to ensure therapy continues to meet your goals.
My aim is for you to leave therapy with a greater understanding of yourself, increased self-compassion and practical tools that continue to support your wellbeing long after our work together has ended.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin building a shared understanding of what has brought you to therapy. I appreciate that taking this first step can feel daunting, so my aim is to create a welcoming, relaxed and supportive space where you feel comfortable to talk at your own pace.
We'll explore the difficulties you're experiencing, any important background that may help me understand your situation, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. I'll ask some questions to gain a fuller picture of your experiences, but there is no pressure to share everything straight away. We will work at a pace that feels right for you.
I'll also explain how I work, answer any questions you may have, and discuss practical aspects of therapy such as confidentiality, session structure and how we will work together. This is also an opportunity for you to decide whether I feel like the right therapist for you. Finding someone you feel comfortable with is an important part of the therapeutic process.
By the end of the session, we'll have started to develop a shared understanding of your difficulties and identify some initial goals for therapy. You'll leave with a clearer idea of how we can work together and what the next steps might look like, allowing you to decide whether you would like to continue.
