About me and my therapy practice

A warm welcome. I’m Priya, an NHS-trained psychotherapeutic counsellor and hold a Level 6 Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling from Inter-Psyche, a BACP-accredited training body. I am a registered member of the BACP (MBACP) and the Black, African and Asian Therapy Network (BAATN). I am also a reiki practitioner. My work is supervised, guided by the BACP’s Ethnical Framework and I regularly undertake professional development training.

Mental health issues can affect us all at some point in life. If you’ve found yourself here because you are struggling, you’ve taken a brave first step. I recognise how daunting it can be to reach out. Therapy has been transformative for me and I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to work on themselves and experience the inner freedom it can bring. This is my motivation for continuing to do this hugely rewarding work. Times of crisis can be opportunities for self-enquiry, to discover who you could be beyond the challenges and limiting beliefs that have shaped you. It is a chance to uncover resilience, wisdom and possibilities you may not yet have realised.

I support adults in community counselling with emotional abuse, domestic violence, PTSD, racism, relationship difficulties, anti-LGBTQ+ prejudice, bullying, loss, unemployment, addictions, sexual abuse intergenerational trauma, colourism, spirituality, existential questions and bereavement. I have also supported people who feel suicidal at The Listening Place charity. My work spans the public, charity and corporate sectors as well as the NHS.

Having lived in multiple countries, I have worked with people from diverse backgrounds and welcome clients from all identities, particularly LGBTQIA+. Being British-born of mixed ethnicity, I understand the complexities of racial diversity and cultural identity and maintain a firm commitment to social justice and working intersectionally. As well as English, I have solid comprehension of French, Brazilian Portuguese and German.

Practice description

Our 50-minute sessions are client-led, meaning you decide where you would like our work to focus. As an integrative counsellor, I work holistically to ensure the support you receive is specific to you, by blending humanistic, psychodynamic, cognitive and existential therapies. My intention is to establish a trusting and collaborative relationship which places your unique needs at the heart of our work.

Where relevant, I draw on techniques from my background in yoga and reiki, incorporating breathwork, mindfulness, guided visualisations, meditations, spiritual self-enquiry, free drawing and working somatically with the wisdom held within the body. Since I work relationally, we will also examine what occurs between us in our therapeutic relationship.

Counselling can make us feel extremely vulnerable, so my approach is to walk sensitively alongside you, whilst challenging and being directive when needed. Clients have commented that I offer calmness, compassion and enable them to work at their own pace. In essence, we will work in the “here and now” of the experience you're living; exploring the parts of you that you are consciously aware of whilst excavating areas you might keep hidden even from yourself to enable you to integrate them.

My first session

Finding the right therapist for you is key, so I offer a cost-free 30-minute introductory call for you to ask questions about my approach and outline what brings you to therapy.

If I feel I can support you and you choose to book a first session, this will be an opportunity for us to get to know each other in more depth, experience how it feels to spend time with one another and decide whether to continue working together. As a first step, please send me an email to outline what you are seeking.
