About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Olivia, founder of Willow & Olive Counselling.

I have over 10 years’ experience working as a registered nurse across a range of healthcare settings. Supporting people through illness, uncertainty, loss and major life changes has given me a deep understanding of how emotional and physical wellbeing can affect every part of life. It continues to shape the calm, compassionate and grounded way I work.

You may be considering counselling because you feel overwhelmed, anxious, low, stuck in familiar patterns or simply unsettled. You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong or what you want to say. We can begin with what feels most important to you and work at a pace that feels manageable and safe.

Practice description

Willow & Olive Counselling was created to offer a welcoming and confidential space where you can step away from the demands of everyday life and focus on your emotional wellbeing.

I provide individual counselling for adults, both in person from my private counselling room in North Shields and online across the UK.

My aim is to create a therapeutic environment where you feel able to explore your thoughts and emotions without judgement. Sessions are tailored to your individual needs, recognising that no two people or experiences are the same.

For in-person clients, I aim to make the experience feel comfortable and considered from the moment you arrive. You are welcome to choose from a complimentary selection of hot and cold drinks during your session and, if you wish, take home a Willow & Olive reflection card to encourage gentle reflection between appointments.

The practice offers a peaceful, wheelchair-accessible counselling room, free on-site parking and a limited number of concessionary spaces for clients aged 16–24 who are in full-time education.

My first session

I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation before arranging your first counselling session. This is an informal conversation, giving you the opportunity to discuss what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions and gain a sense of how I work before deciding whether you would like to arrange an appointment. There is no obligation to book following the call.

Your first counselling session lasts approximately 60 minutes. On arrival, you’ll be invited to enjoy a complimentary hot or cold drink before we begin. We will then spend time getting to know one another, exploring what has brought you to therapy and discussing what you hope to gain from counselling.

As part of this session, we will complete an initial assessment together. This helps me understand your current concerns, relevant personal circumstances, medical and mental health history, and any support you already have in place. It also helps ensure that I can work safely, ethically and in a way that meets your individual needs.

We will also go through the counselling agreement together. This explains how we will work together, including confidentiality, attendance, fees, cancellations and professional boundaries. It gives you the opportunity to ask questions and ensures that you feel fully informed and comfortable before deciding whether to continue.

There is no expectation to share everything during your first session. We will work at a pace that feels right for you, allowing a safe, trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship to develop naturally over time.

At the end of your session, you are welcome to take home one of my Willow & Olive Reflection Cards, designed to encourage gentle reflection between appointments.
