About me and my therapy practice
I work as an integrative psychotherapist, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic, somatic and creative approaches depending on what can most support, nurture and help.
I work with the whole person, not just the presenting issue, drawing on integrative, trauma-informed and somatic-influenced approaches to support clients in building self-understanding, resilience, and a more grounded sense of self.
My core orientation is relational: I believe change happens through the quality of the therapeutic relationship, establishing trust and safety is paramount to my practice.
Practice description
I aim to create a safe, collaborative space where people feel heard, respected, and empowered in their own process.
My practice has developed through work in drug and alcohol services, where I've supported people dealing with complex trauma, addiction, and experiences that sit outside mainstream mental health provision. This has shaped my particular interest in complex trauma and marginalised presentations, clients whose experiences haven't always been well served by conventional talking therapy alone.
Many of my clients come to me after previous therapy hasn't addressed what they're actually carrying, or because their experiences of marginalisation, substance use, or trauma haven't felt fully understood elsewhere.
My approach is non-pathologising & anti-oppressive. Mental health labels, although sometimes useful can erase the situational or structural harms that have been done and often limit the real support and care needed.
My first session
Finding the right therapist can be daunting, but is key.
In our first session, we can explore if we are a good fit and divise a short or long term plan based on your goals, expectations and the financial reality of entering therapy.
You can expect compassionate empathy from me. I won't offer false reassurance, therapy is a process and not a quick fix. I will hold what you bring seriously and work collaboratively with you. Psychoeducation and tool kits can be part of that process.
I tailor sessions to the individual needs of the person, whether short term or long term. Review sessions are built into our sessions, to respect the ever changing nature of being human.
Sessions run 50 mins and am currently offering on-line only. In the near future I hope to offer in person appointments.
