About me and my therapy practice
Welcome.
Taking the first step towards therapy isn't always easy, and finding the right counsellor can feel overwhelming. Whether you know exactly what's bringing you here or you're struggling to put it into words, you're welcome to come just as you are.
I believe that one of the most important parts of therapy is the relationship we build together. When you feel safe, accepted and genuinely understood, it becomes easier to explore difficult thoughts, emotions and experiences. My aim is to offer a warm, supportive space where you feel able to be yourself, without fear of judgement or pressure.
As an integrative counsellor, I tailor therapy to you as an individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. I believe that no two people are the same, so we'll work together to find an approach that feels right for you.
Although talking is at the heart of therapy, sometimes it can be difficult to find the words to describe how you're feeling. When this happens, I may offer a range of therapeutic resources, such as feelings cards, worksheets, psychoeducation or reflective exercises, to support our work together. These are always optional, and we'll decide together what feels most helpful for you.
Above all, I want therapy to feel like a place where you don't have to pretend, have all the answers or carry things on your own.
Practice description
Counselling offers you dedicated time and space to pause, reflect and explore whatever feels important, without judgement or the pressure to have everything figured out.
Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly, either in person in Henley-on-Thames or online.
There is no expectation to know exactly what you want to work on from the beginning. Some people arrive with a clear goal, while others need time to understand what's going on. Wherever you are in that process, we'll work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
As part of my practice, I offer a review every six sessions. This gives us the opportunity to reflect on how therapy is feeling, revisit your goals, and consider whether there are any new areas you'd like to explore. I believe these reviews help keep therapy collaborative and ensure it continues to meet your needs.
My first session
Before arranging a first session, I offer a free 15-minute telephone call. This gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have, find out a little more about how I work and decide whether I feel like the right counsellor for you. There is no obligation to book after this call.
If you decide to go ahead, I'll invite you to complete a short assessment form before our first session. This gives you the opportunity to share a little about yourself and what has brought you to therapy, helping us make the most of our time together.
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and explore what has brought you to therapy. There is no expectation to share everything straight away, and you don't need to have all the answers. We'll talk about what you're hoping to gain from counselling, and you'll have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
Towards the end of the session, we'll reflect on how it has felt for both of us and discuss whether we'd like to continue working together. Finding the right counsellor is an important part of the therapeutic process, and I believe it's essential that you feel comfortable and supported in the relationship.
