About me and my therapy practice
You may appear to be coping on the outside while privately feeling anxious, overwhelmed or exhausted. Perhaps you spend so much time looking after other people that there is little space left for you, or you feel under pressure to be who others need or expect you to be.
I offer person-centred counselling to adults aged 18 and over. My approach is warm, compassionate and non-judgemental. I believe there are often good reasons we have become who we are and good reasons we feel the way we feel. Sometimes, what appears to be a personal struggle is also a response to difficult experiences, relationships, or expectations that you have been carrying for a long time.
Therapy with me is not about labelling you, telling you what to do, or pushing you towards a predetermined solution. It is an opportunity to understand yourself more deeply, reconnect with your own feelings and needs, and explore what feels right for you.
You do not need to arrive with the right words or a clear goal. We can begin wherever you are.
I have more than ten years’ experience supporting people affected by mental health difficulties, addiction, trauma, and significant life challenges. I hold an MSc with Distinction in Counselling and Psychotherapy and an MSc in Psychology, and I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
Practice description
I offer individual counselling online and by telephone to adults throughout the UK. Sessions last 50 minutes and will usually take place at the same agreed time each week, although we can discuss what arrangement would work best for you.
Our sessions will provide a confidential space in which you can speak openly and explore whatever is important to you. I will listen carefully and seek to understand your experiences from your point of view. I may reflect on what I hear, notice patterns with you, or gently invite you to explore something more deeply, but you will remain in control of what we discuss and the pace at which we work.
There is no set programme to follow and no expectation that you must commit to a particular number of sessions. We can work together for a shorter period or on a longer-term, open-ended basis, depending on your needs. We will review our work together as we go.
Online sessions take place through Google Meet, and telephone sessions are available if you feel more comfortable speaking without video. You'll just need a private space where you are unlikely to be interrupted.
Before booking your first counselling session, I offer a free 15-minute introductory telephone call. This gives you an opportunity to tell me briefly what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions, and decide whether working together feels right for you.
My first session
Your first counselling session will last 50 minutes and is charged at my usual session fee of £55, unless we have agreed a reduced fee in advance.
We will begin by talking about what has brought you to counselling and what you might hope for from our work together. There is no formal diagnostic assessment and you do not need to prepare anything or arrive with a clear account of what is wrong. We can take the conversation at your pace.
We will also discuss the counselling agreement, confidentiality and its limits, and any practical arrangements. I may ask for some essential information about your wellbeing, current support and who I should contact in an emergency. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and talk about anything you need in order to feel comfortable beginning therapy.
The session is also a chance for us both to consider whether working together feels appropriate. There is no obligation to commit to a set number of sessions afterwards.
