About me and my therapy practice

I’m Helen, and I started To Be Me Therapy to create a safe space to pause, reflect and explore whatever is happening for you, right now.

I offer face-to-face counselling for adults and young people in Cornwall, alongside online and telephone sessions across the UK.

Finding the right counsellor can feel like a big step. My aim is to offer a calm, supportive space to talk openly, without feeling judged, or like you need to have everything figured out first.

My Type of Counselling

I'm a person-centred counsellor, which just means that I believe you are the expert on your own life. Rather than offering advice or telling you what you should do, I work alongside you, to help you make sense of your experiences, and discover what feels right for you.

I work with clients experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including

• anxiety

• depression

• loss

• trauma

• relationship challenges

• stress

• low self-esteem

• life transitions

• Identity issues

Sometimes people come with a clear reason for seeking counselling, while others simply know that something doesn't feel right.

Whatever brings you here, that's where we'll begin.

I do my best to ensure my practice is inclusive and affirming. I welcome people from all backgrounds, cultures, genders, sexual orientations and identities, and I'm committed to providing a space where everyone feels respected, valued and safe.

Always at the heart of my work is the question

"What does it mean to be me?"

To Be Me Therapy offers the opportunity to explore that question with empathy, compassion and without judgement, and always at your own pace.

Practice description

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming. You may be struggling with stress or anxiety, loss, or the lasting impact of past experiences. It might be navigating life changes, feeling somehow stuck, or perhaps finding it hard to make sense of how you're feeling.

The relationship between counsellor and client is one of the most important parts of therapy. The most beneficial counselling relationships are based on honesty, trust, warmth and acceptance, and where you feel able to be yourself.

Together, we can explore whatever is important to you, at a pace that feels comfortable, helping you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and find a way forward that feels authentic, meaningful and right for you.

Each session lasts 1 hour, with no set number of sessions. Some people will benefit from just a few sessions, while others choose longer-term counselling. We can review this together as we go.

With a background working in schools, I understand many of the pressures faced by young people, parents, and families as they navigate education.

I have training and experience supporting people affected by emotional trauma, abuse, and adverse childhood experiences.

I offer neurodivergence-affirming counselling and work collaboratively with clients to understand their unique experiences, accommodate differences in communication and information processing, and support wellbeing in ways that feel authentic to each individual person.

My first session

Starting counselling can feel daunting, and it's completely natural to feel unsure about what to expect.

If you're thinking about therapy and wondering whether it's the right step, I offer a free introductory phone conversation to answer your questions and help you decide whether working together feels right for you.

You don't need to prepare or have the right words. You only need to come as you are.
