About me and my therapy practice
Perhaps life has become harder than you’d like?
You don’t have to face it alone.
I offer a place for wholehearted attention — where you can be your honest self.
Whether you're feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, grieving, questioning your relationships or simply no longer feel like yourself you don't have to face it on your own.
My role isn't to tell you who you should be, it's to understand who you are.
Together we'll explore what has brought you here, at your pace, with care, understanding, respect and honesty..
I am a BACP-registered person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist offering counselling and therapy in Norwich, UK and online. I see counselling as creating the conditions in which new understanding can emerge. My goal is to understand your experience from the inside, offering thoughtful challenge where appropriate while respecting your own pace and inner wisdom.
You may be looking for somewhere you can speak openly without feeling judged, rushed or expected to have everything worked out. Being heard, understood and accompanied with care can create space to discover a way forward.
Whether we spend time exploring longstanding patterns or recent difficulties and concerns that are hard to put into words – our work will always begin with curiosity, compassion and a genuine human relationship. I also bring an existential perspective that can help you see the big picture and find the meaning you may be looking for.
I work inclusively and affirmatively with trauma, abuse, anxiety, depression, bereavement, pregnancy loss, issues of self-worth, relationship concerns, neurodiversity, men’s and women’s mental health, gender and sexual identity, life transitions, identity and purpose in life.
I am a registered member of BACP, work within its Ethical Framework, am fully professionally insured and receive regular clinical supervision.
Practice description
Before counselling, two decades of photojournalism for The New York Times opened doors to thousands of different lives for me. I witnessed moments of joy, grief, illness, courage and change. I learned that the most meaningful encounters begin not with advice, but with genuine attention. Photography taught me to be present, to listen without interrupting, and to recognise that every person carries a story that cannot be understood at first glance.
My experience also includes working with people with severe learning disabilities, facilitating groups for men who have experienced pregnancy loss, training counsellors in this work, providing psychotherapy for asylum seekers experiencing complex trauma, and working on a Swedish wilderness-therapy research project with young adults who had experienced cancer.
Living abroad for many years and travelling widely exposed me to different cultures, communities and ways of seeing. It fostered humility and curiosity, strengthened my belief that there is no single way to live well.
Years of personal reflection and Zen Buddhist meditation have also shaped how I meet the world, deepening my appreciation of vulnerability, resilience and the importance of being fully present with another person. These experiences inform who I am as a therapist; I don't bring a religious or spiritual agenda to the work.
Qualifications
Postgraduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling — Norwich Centre for Personal and Professional Development
Postgraduate Certificate in Person-Centred Counselling
BA (Hons) Philosophy
My first session
What to expect
It is very common to feel nervous before a first counselling session. You may wonder what you'll say, how you'll begin, or worry that you might become upset. There is no right way to start. You don't need to prepare anything, and we can begin wherever you are.
Free 15-minute introductory call
Finding a therapist can feel daunting, particularly if you haven't had counselling before. I offer a free 15-minute introductory call with no obligation to continue.
It gives us a chance to meet, for you to tell me a little about what has brought you to counselling and to ask any questions you may have. I can explain how I work and we can get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.
Your first counselling session
If you decide you'd like to continue, our first full session is an opportunity to begin exploring what has brought you to therapy and what you would like from our work together. I won't expect you to tell me everything at once, and there is no assessment you need to pass or particular way you need to talk.
We'll also cover the practical side of working together, including confidentiality, boundaries and arrangements for sessions. Most importantly, we'll begin at a pace that feels manageable for you.
What I can help with
Abuse, ADD / ADHD, Addictions, Adoption, AIDS/HIV, Anger management, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Baby loss, Bereavement, Body/somatic therapy, Cancer, Child related issues, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Coercive control, Cultural issues, Dementia, Depression, Disability, Eating disorders, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, LGBTQ+ counselling, Loss, Menopause, Men's issues, Mood disorder, Narcissism, Neurodiversity, Obsessions, OCD, Personal development, Pet bereavement, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Pregnancy related issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Sensory impairment, Service veterans, Severe mental illness (SMI), Sex-related issues, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stalking, Stress, Substance Dependency, Trauma, Women's issues, Work related issues
