About me and my therapy practice

Has life felt heavy lately.  Maybe you feel tired, anxious or stressed and overwhelmed.  Everyday life can be exhausting and leave you feeling disconnected from friends, family and loved ones.

Thinking about how we feel and then speaking out loud can be difficult. I offer you a safe and non-judgmental space to listen and provide support as you explore, perhaps, feelings of depression and anxiety or overwhelm at daily life pressures or a relationship breakdown.  Your values and beliefs will always be respected and valued.

I am a humanistic person-centred counsellor with experience working with adults including older people. I offer a warm and compassionate space where we can gently explore at your pace feelings of anxiety, depression, self-doubt including work-related stress.

Building a trusting therapeutic relationship forms the foundation of my work as I believe this is what genuinely helps someone towards positive healing, self-understanding and growth.

I work in a gentle humanistic way bringing together person-centred and CBT approaches. I believe that every individual holds within them their own way of being and I offer a warm, reflective and supportive space where you can reconnect with yourself and explore your worries safely and regain your voice and be you.

Practice description

I'm a qualified counsellor based in Rochester and Medway and can work in person, online and over the telephone.

I trained in therapeutic counselling at Ocean Counselling Training in Rochester.  I work as a volunteer at North Kent Mind and work with clients experiencing bereavement, loss and grief; depression, low self-worth, self-harm and family issues around domestic abuse by a partner.

I have worked within an NHS Trust environment and have experience with workplace stress-related situations including adults experiencing PTSD, anxiety and life-changing events such as alcoholism and the suicide of a loved one.  I have experience working with domestic abuse.

I am a warm and genuine person who can listen to you and explore your feelings of self-doubt, of not feeling heard or valued, and feelings of hopelessness experienced with grief and loss.

I work in an ethical and self-aware way and with a professional and  committed focus on the continuing of my own professional development.

In my practice I will work with you using my core training in humanistic skills through the person-centred counselling approach.

My first session

When you first make contact with me I will ask you a few questions about you and what you are experiencing to help me understand whether I will be the right person for you.  You can ask me questions too and if you choose to go ahead with me we will book an appointment.  There is no obligation to book an appointment.

It can take a little while to build a therapeutic relationship and our first session will help us to decide if we feel able to work together.  There is no obligation to continue after the first appointment if you feel counselling with me is not for you at this time.

If we decide to work together we will have a simple contract in place which will cover some key points including confidentiality, the day and time of appointment and cancellation details.

Sessions are usually held at the same time and day each week and are 50 minutes in length.

Counselling is a very personal journey and I offer both short and long-term counselling.  For some clients the wish is to focus on a particular issue for a few weekly sessions while others prefer to take time to explore and reconnect to find the right path and may come for a number of months or years.
