About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Kat, the counsellor behind Kalm Space Counselling.
Have you ever felt that you need somewhere you can be yourself, without worrying about being judged, misunderstood or feeling that you have to hold everything together? I offer a warm, accepting and confidential space where you can talk openly, explore your feelings and begin to understand yourself a little better.
I work with young people and adults experiencing a range of difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, overwhelm, relationship challenges, life changes, self-esteem and questions around identity. I have a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent people, including those who are exploring or coming to terms with an ADHD or autism diagnosis. However, you do not need to be neurodivergent to work with me.
My approach is integrative and grounded in person-centred counselling. This means I value you as the expert in your own life and work alongside you, rather than telling you what to do. I draw on different therapeutic ideas to support your individual needs, always working at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Alongside my counselling training and experience supporting young people, I bring an understanding of how our experiences, relationships and environments can shape the way we feel about ourselves. My own lived experience has also helped me appreciate how important it is to feel heard, accepted and understood.
I believe that meaningful change can begin when we feel safe enough to be ourselves. You don't have to have everything figured out before you come to counselling. You are welcome just as you are.
If you feel we might be a good fit, I’d love to hear from you.
Practice description
At Kalm Space Counselling, my aim is to offer a space where you can pause, breathe and feel able to bring whatever is going on for you.
Life can sometimes feel overwhelming. You might be struggling to understand your feelings, feeling anxious or low, navigating relationships or changes in your life, or simply sensing that something doesn't feel right. Perhaps you have spent a long time putting other people first, trying to fit in or feeling that you need to be a certain way. You don't need to arrive with a clear explanation of what is wrong. We can work that out together.
I offer counselling for young people and adults, with a particular interest in neurodivergence, emotional wellbeing, self-esteem, identity and the impact of life experiences. My approach is individual to you. I aim to offer empathy, curiosity and acceptance, creating room for you to explore difficult thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement.
Counselling isn't about fixing you or giving you all the answers. It is an opportunity to develop a better understanding of yourself, recognise patterns that may no longer help you and explore what you need moving forward. Sometimes this means sitting with difficult feelings; at other times, it may involve looking at different perspectives or finding ways to manage everyday challenges.
I offer face-to-face sessions in Basingstoke and Mortimer, alongside online counselling by arrangement. I understand that taking the first step can feel daunting, so I aim to make the process as straightforward and comfortable as possible.
Kalm Space is about having the space to be heard, to make sense of your experiences and to find a way forward that feels right for you.
You don't have to face everything alone. Please get in touch if you'd like to explore working together.
My first session
Starting counselling can feel daunting, particularly if you have never spoken to a counsellor before. You might be unsure what to say, where to begin or whether counselling is right for you. That's completely okay.
Our first session is an opportunity for us to meet, begin getting to know one another and explore what has brought you to counselling. There is no expectation that you will have everything worked out or know exactly what you want to talk about.
I will invite you to share a little about yourself, what has been happening in your life and what you hope counselling might offer. You are welcome to share as much or as little as feels comfortable. We can take things at your pace, and there will be time for you to ask questions about me, my approach and how counselling works.
We will also discuss practical arrangements, including confidentiality and its limits, safeguarding, session boundaries and what you can expect from our work together. This helps us establish a clear and safe foundation for counselling.
I see the relationship between counsellor and client as an important part of the process. It matters that you feel comfortable enough to talk openly and that you have a sense of whether we could work well together. There is no pressure to make everything fit into one session, and we can discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
My approach is collaborative and led by your needs. We can explore what feels most important to you and consider what you would like to get from counselling, without rushing into solutions or setting expectations that don't feel right for you.
I want you to leave our first meeting feeling listened to, respected and clearer about what working together might look like.
If you have questions before booking, please get in touch. I’m happy to talk through the process and help you decide whether Kalm Space Counselling feels like the right place for you.
