About me and my therapy practice

I provide a genuine, caring, and non-judgmental approach to support my clients in growing as individuals.

I encourage clients to share their unique experiences and emotions, to be creative and reflective, whilst practising self-care and self-kindness.

I actively listen to understand problems and challenges that are causing clients emotional difficulties, remaining within their frame of reference and working to develop a trusting, non judgemental and safe therapeutic relationship.

I pride myself in embracing difference and diversity, and I welcome all into my private practice. I offer an environment where clients are able to feel safe and at ease, using my formal training to support them in exploring their emotions and unique experiences.

I work within the BACP Ethical Framework, ensuring safe therapeutic practice with my clients, adhering to supervision and GDPR regulations.

Practice description

The sessions are focused on you - your thoughts, ideas, opinions and feelings - so that you feel more confident in yourself and in your relationships with those around you.

Sessions may take place in person (in a therapeutic space based in Marlow) or online, via an online platform.

My integrated approach draws on person-centred therapy, placing the client as the priority in the sessions with compassion and empathy, as well as Transactional Analysis, to better understand the interactions we have with ourselves and others, and the impact of those relationships on our feelings and behaviours. I also draw on existentialism, to consider our wider purpose, ensuring each session is valuable to you.

My first session

The first session can often feel daunting - ‘what do you want to know first’ or ‘where to begin’ are often things people say at the start of a first session.

I will help you feel at ease from the outset, reducing any pressure you may feel and reminding you that I am here to listen to you and support you as best as I can. Once we have settled into the session and greeted one another, I will go through the working agreement with you - e.g. time of sessions, confidentiality, how to best contact one another. This is so that we can ease into the session, and build a sense of comfort as we start on the same page as one another.

Following this, the first session is usually taken up with setting the scene: What has been your experience? What led you to counselling? What is important for me to know about you?

First sessions are about getting a sense of one another, to see how we can work together in future sessions. It helps to build the trust and mutual respect for one another, that will allow us to focus on the therapeutic work in the forthcoming sessions.
