About me and my therapy practice
You may be considering counselling because you're struggling with something specific, or because life simply isn't feeling as it usually does.
Perhaps you're feeling overwhelmed, low or anxious. Something may have changed in your life or relationships, or you may be carrying something from the past that continues to affect you. You might notice yourself responding in familiar ways, feeling disconnected from yourself, or wondering why certain feelings or patterns keep returning.
Sometimes there isn't a clear reason at all, only a sense that something doesn't feel right.
My approach is rooted in person-centred counselling, with a holistic understanding of the connection between mind, body and emotional wellbeing.
Our work begins with your experience. We can explore what feels alive for you in the present, while also making space for your relationships, history, emotions and the experiences that have shaped you.
I work relationally, with an interest in the whole of your experience, your thoughts and feelings, as well as what you notice and experience in your body.
Sometimes our experiences can be difficult to put into words, and gently noticing what is happening in the moment can offer another way of exploring what feels alive for you.
Therapy can give you the time and space to explore these experiences at your own pace, within a relationship where you can increasingly feel able to bring more of yourself.
Practice description
Sessions last 50 minutes and take place online via video call. Most clients choose to meet weekly, giving us continuity and time for our work to develop.
Each session is shaped by what you bring. You might want to talk about something that has happened during the week, return to something we've explored before, or find that the conversation takes us somewhere unexpected.
As we talk, I may reflect something I've heard, ask a question, notice something that seems important or invite us to stay with something for a little longer. There may also be moments of quiet, reflection or humour.
Over time, this gives us space to explore your experiences more deeply and to notice what emerges within the relationship we build together.
My first session
Our first session gives us an opportunity to meet and talk about what has brought you to therapy, what is happening in your life at the moment and anything you feel is important for me to know.
I'll explain a little about how I work and you can ask any questions you have. You can begin wherever feels most natural, whether you have something specific you want to talk about or you're still finding your way into what has brought you here.
It's also an opportunity to experience what it feels like to talk with me and decide whether you would like us to work together.
If you'd like to continue, we can arrange ongoing weekly sessions.
