About me and my therapy practice

I’m John Jackson, a BACP counsellor offering face-to-face therapy in Buckhurst Hill and online. I work with people who want to understand themselves better, make sense of difficult feelings and find a way forward that feels right for them.

I’m interested in both what’s happening in your life now and how earlier experiences might still be influencing the way you feel about yourself and other people.

For example, we might notice that you’re particularly hard on yourself when you make a mistake, or that you find it difficult to tell someone when they’ve upset you. Rather than simply trying to change those responses, we can explore how they developed and whether they’re still serving you.

We’ll talk about what you’re hoping to gain from counselling and review how things are going as we work together. Some people want to focus on a particular difficulty over six to ten sessions, while others find it helpful to work together for longer. You remain in control of what you share and how long you choose to continue.

My practice is neurodiversity and LGBTQ+ affirmative. I welcome people from different backgrounds, identities and experiences.

Practice description

I know that starting counselling can feel strange, particularly if you’re not used to talking openly about yourself.

You might worry that you won’t know what to say, that your problems aren’t serious enough or that I’ll expect you to reveal things you’re not ready to discuss.

I won’t.

When we meet, you’ll have my full attention. We’ll go at your pace, and you can talk about whatever feels important to you. Some sessions might involve difficult emotions or memories. Others might be about something that happened during your week or a thought you can’t seem to shake.

I’m warm, patient and naturally curious. I take the work seriously, but that doesn’t mean every conversation has to feel serious. I enjoy humour, and sometimes being able to laugh together about the ridiculousness of life and the strange things our brains do can make things feel a little lighter.

What matters most to me is that you feel comfortable enough to be honest.

I see counselling as a relationship built on trust, where you can explore your thoughts without worrying about being judged or told what you should do.

Over time, I hope you’ll find yourself recognising feelings you previously struggled to name, understanding patterns that once seemed confusing and becoming more confident in your own instincts.

My first session

If you are interested in working together, I offer a free, no-commitment call, to see if you think its the right fit.

If it is, I will send you a short assessment form. This will help both of us understand where you are at.

In our first session, we will explore how you are feeling, what you'd like to get out of counselling, and how we might work together.
