About me and my therapy practice

I work with adults and young people aged 16+, with a particular focus on complex trauma, developmental trauma, relational trauma, attachment wounds and the lasting effects of painful early experiences.

You may look capable from the outside. You may be working, studying, parenting, smiling, replying to messages, keeping life moving. But underneath, things may feel very different. You might feel anxious, ashamed, angry, shut down, overwhelmed, frightened by your own reactions, or exhausted by patterns in your relationships that you cannot seem to change. You may feel responsible for everyone else, unsure of what you need, or confused by why certain people, situations or endings affect you so deeply.

I am especially interested in how early relationships shape the way we learn to survive. This might include growing up around emotional unpredictability, absence, rejection, criticism, family rupture, loss, neglect, or having to become independent too soon. It may also include experiences of adoption, fostering, social care involvement or the care system, where questions of identity, belonging, loyalty and loss can run very deep.

I am a real person first and a counsellor second.

I offer trauma-informed therapeutic counselling where safety, trust and choice come first. You will not be pushed to tell your story before you feel ready, and I will not treat you as a problem to be fixed.

Together, we can begin to understand the anxiety, shame, emotional overwhelm, attachment wounds, relationship patterns, trauma and painful early experiences that may still be affecting your life now. We will work carefully and honestly, at a pace that feels possible, so you can start to make sense of what has happened, how you have survived, and what you need from here.

Practice description

You do not need to arrive with the right words, a clear goal or a neatly organised version of your story. You do not have to appear strong, calm or clever. You can come exactly as you are.

I believe many of the things we come to dislike or feel ashamed of in ourselves began as intelligent ways of coping, adapting or surviving. Therapy is not about deciding that something is wrong with you and trying to fix it. It can be a place to begin understanding what happened, how you learned to survive it, and what you may need now.

I work with people experiencing anxiety, panic, depression, emotional overwhelm, grief, relationship difficulties, low self-worth and the lasting effects of painful or traumatic experiences. I have a particular interest in complex and relational trauma, attachment wounds, maternal mental health, birth trauma, parenting, female rage and the exhaustion that can come from carrying too much for too long.

You may find yourself longing for closeness while also finding it difficult to trust. You may feel responsible for everyone else, struggle to know what you need, or become overwhelmed by emotions that seem to arrive from nowhere. Perhaps you have spent years appearing capable while privately feeling that you are barely holding things together.

Whatever has brought you here, you do not have to carry it alone.

My first session

Our first session is an initial session for us to get to know each other, and for you to get a sense of whether I feel like the right fit for you.

It is a conversation, and there is no pressure to talk about anything you are not ready for. We can begin with what has brought you to therapy, what has been going on for you, and what you might be hoping for from the work.

If you arrive feeling unsure where to start, that is completely okay. If you feel as though you are bubbling over and need somewhere to put it all, that is welcome too. We will work with wherever you are.

The first session gives us time to gently understand what you need and how I may be able to support you. There is no pressure to commit beyond this session; we can use the time to see how it feels and decide what might be helpful next.
