About me and my therapy practice
I work relationally and intersubjectively, which means that the relationship between us is part of the therapy rather than something that sits in the background. I am present in the room with you and pay attention to what happens between us as well as what you bring.
I don’t see the therapist as a neutral observer who simply applies techniques from the outside. I bring my own thoughts, responses and curiosity to our work, while keeping the focus on understanding your experience. Sometimes what happens between us can help us notice familiar ways of relating, expectations you may carry into relationships, or things that are difficult to see from your own perspective.
My work is integrative, drawing on psychodynamic, existential and humanistic thinking. I am interested in how earlier experiences can continue to shape the present, how relationships influence our sense of ourselves, and how we make sense of questions around identity, meaning, choice and change.
I don’t follow a fixed formula for therapy. The work develops around what you bring and what we discover together. Sometimes that means staying closely with something happening in your life now. At other times, it means looking back at experiences that may help make sense of what is happening today. There may also be times when simply having space to think, rather than immediately trying to solve something, is important.
I work with the person rather than trying to fit every difficulty into a particular model. My role is to listen carefully, think with you and, where useful, bring my own observations into the conversation. We can take things at a pace that allows the work to develop without losing sight of why you came to therapy in the first place.
Practice description
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress or burnout, difficulties in relationships, low self-esteem, or a period of significant change amongst many other areas. You may be struggling with something specific, or you may have reached a point where you know that something needs attention but aren’t quite sure what.
Therapy can give you time to think about what is happening in your life and to understand yourself in a deeper way. We can explore patterns that keep repeating, how you relate to other people, how you experience yourself, and the experiences that may have shaped these ways of being. I am also interested in the questions that can sit underneath more immediate difficulties: who you are, what matters to you, how you want to live, and what you want from your relationships and work.
People sometimes come to therapy because a relationship is difficult, work has become overwhelming, a change has unsettled them, or they feel disconnected from a sense of direction. You do not need to have a clear explanation before starting. Part of our work can be finding language for what is happening.
I am an integrative psychotherapist with an MSc in Therapeutic Counselling and MBACP registration. My professional affiliations include Maudsley, Goldsmiths and Clearthinking Clinic.
Before becoming a psychotherapist, I studied art history, worked in curation and arts journalism and spent many years working in corporate technology training. Those parts of my background continue to inform my interest in people, culture, work, identity and relationships.
I work in Central, The City and East London in person and nationwide online.
My first session
Before booking a full session, I offer a free 15-minute video consultation. This gives us a chance to talk briefly about what has brought you to therapy, what you are hoping might change and what you are looking for. I can explain how I work and answer any questions you have. It also gives us both an opportunity to consider whether working together feels like the right fit. There is no obligation to continue.
If we decide to work together, the first full session gives us time to begin understanding what is happening for you now and what has led you to seek therapy. We may talk about your current circumstances, important relationships and some of your history. You don’t need to arrive with a prepared story or know exactly where to begin. We can work it out together.
We will also discuss practical matters such as confidentiality, boundaries, how we will use the sessions and anything else you need to know about working together. You will have space to ask questions and to tell me what you need from therapy.
I usually suggest beginning with six sessions. This gives us enough time to establish the relationship, begin to understand what is bringing you to therapy and see how the work develops. At the end of this initial period, we can review how things are going and decide together whether you would like to continue.
The first session is also your chance to experience what it is like to work with me. Finding the right therapist matters, and the relationship between us is an important part of the work. If something feels unclear or you have reservations, you can say so. We can talk about it rather than assuming you have to simply continue.
