About me and my therapy practice

I’m Helen. My long-standing interest in human nature and the relationship between mind, body, and our deeper sense of self led me to train in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapeutic Counselling.

My approach is holistic, informed by Psychosynthesis; a form of psychotherapy that recognises the many dimensions of being human. It invites us to explore not only our thoughts, feelings and behaviours, but also our relationships, values, sense of identity and questions of meaning and purpose.

I’m fascinated by how life experiences, early relationships, and beliefs shape the way we see ourselves and interact with the world. My background in meditation, and mindfulness deepens my understanding of self-awareness and the importance of cultivating a compassionate relationship with ourselves.

You might come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, stuck in familiar patterns, struggling with relationships, or navigating a period of change. Perhaps you’re facing inner conflict, questioning your direction, or sensing that something needs to change without knowing where to start.

I offer a warm, thoughtful, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace, feel heard, and develop a deeper understanding of yourself.

Often, the beliefs and habitual behaviours that influence us unconsciously began as ways of coping with difficult experiences or protecting ourselves from emotional pain. While these patterns may once have served a purpose, they can later become limiting and restrictive, affecting our relationships, choices, and sense of who we are.

Through our work together, we can bring awareness to these patterns, explore what lies beneath them and understand ourselves with greater compassion. I see therapy as an opportunity to develop a more authentic relationship with ourselves. I believe that making space for the different, sometimes conflicting aspects of ourselves, we can develop greater clarity and freedom in how we respond to life.

Practice description

In the sessions that follow the first, and depending on your circumstances and needs, we may spend some time exploring your personal history and significant life experiences. This helps me develop a deeper understanding of you, your current difficulties and the patterns that may be influencing your experience. Your reasons for coming to therapy will remain central to our work, and this understanding will help inform how we approach the therapeutic process together.

I recognise that building trust takes time. For some clients, the early weeks of therapy may be particularly important in establishing a sense of safety and connection. My aim is to create a warm, open and non-judgemental space where you feel able to speak honestly about your experiences, thoughts and feelings, at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

As our therapeutic relationship develops and a sense of trust is established, our work may also involve gently exploring areas that feel challenging or uncomfortable. I may offer reflections or invite you to consider familiar patterns, beliefs or perspectives from a different angle. This is always approached with care and respect, with the intention of supporting greater self-awareness, understanding and growth.

I see therapy as a collaborative process, shaped around you as an individual. We will have regular reviews to reflect on how the work is progressing, explore whether you are getting what you need from therapy and consider whether any adjustments would be helpful. Your experience and feedback are an important part of this process.

My first session

Our first session will be an initial assessment, giving us an opportunity to explore what has brought you to therapy, what you hope to gain from the process and whether working together feels right for you.
