About me and my therapy practice

Registered Therapeutic Counsellor & Coach

Taking the first step towards finding a therapist can feel like a big step, especially when it means opening up to someone new.

Feel free to get in touch for a free, no-obligation chat. We can talk things through and see if I might be the right person to support you.

Hello and welcome to my profile.

I’m Caroline, a registered Counsellor and Accredited Coach based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. I also work online, and outdoors.

My core training is person-centred, which means we start with you — what’s happening in your life, what matters to you and what you would like to change. I also draw on CBT, Transactional Analysis and coaching skills where they feel helpful and appropriate. This allows us to explore not only how you’re feeling, but also the thoughts, behaviours and relationship patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

I believe therapy should feel like a safe space where you can be yourself, talk openly and feel genuinely listened to. I work in a warm, thoughtful and collaborative way, tailoring our sessions to you rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

Sometimes we might use creative ways to explore and express feelings, while often we simply talk. And sometimes, it’s the quiet moments and the space between words that can bring the greatest insight.

I work with adults, helping with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship difficulties, life changes, grief, identity and self-worth.

I see therapy as a partnership. We’ll work together at a pace that feels comfortable for you, taking time to check in along the way and make sure our sessions continue to feel helpful, relevant and supportive.

Practice description

I offer a warm, welcoming and confidential space where you can talk openly about whatever has brought you to therapy. My aim is for you to feel comfortable, listened to and able to be yourself, without judgement.

Everyone is different, so I tailor our sessions to you and what you need. Sometimes we may explore things more deeply, while at other times it may be more helpful to focus on practical ways of managing what you’re experiencing. Where appropriate, I may also share information or psycho-education, particularly when working with past trauma.

I’ll listen carefully, ask questions and, when helpful, gently challenge patterns or ways of thinking that may no longer be working for you. I also pay attention to what happens between us, as this can sometimes offer useful insight into patterns in your wider life and relationships.

Trust is at the heart of therapy for me. I work ethically and with clear boundaries, creating a space where you can feel safe, respected and supported.

I offer online and face-to-face sessions from a counselling space in Southend-on-Sea. Sessions are 50 minutes and cost £55, usually at the same time each week. I generally suggest starting with a minimum of six sessions, then reviewing together how things are going and whether you’d like to continue.

Coaching

Alongside my therapy work, I am a Coach Practitioner and Family Consultant, specialising in divorce, separation and co-parenting.

My coaching work offers a focused and practical space to help you navigate separation and divorce, manage the challenges that can arise and find your way forward.

If you’re unsure whether therapy or coaching is right for you, that’s absolutely fine. Get in touch to discuss what you’re looking for, and for information on coaching and pricing. I can help you decide which may be the best fit. You can find out more about my coaching work at www.carolinemenzies.com

My first session

Our first session is a free, no-obligation consultation. It’s a chance for us to meet, talk about what has brought you to therapy and explore how I might be able to support you. Just as importantly, it gives you the opportunity to get a feel for me and how I work, and to decide whether I feel like the right person for you.

I’ll invite you to tell me a little about what’s going on for you, your background and what you might hope to get from therapy. I’ll ask some gentle questions along the way to help me understand things better, but there’s absolutely no pressure to talk about anything you’re not ready to share.

I’ll also explain a little about how I work and what you can expect from our sessions. We can talk through practical things such as confidentiality, boundaries and how we might work together, so you have a clear idea of what to expect.

At the end, we’ll talk about what happens next. There’s no expectation or pressure to make a decision straight away — I encourage you to take some time afterwards to think about whether therapy with me feels right for you.

The initial consultation lasts around 30 minutes and is carried out online.

If we decide to work together, I’ll ask you to complete a counselling agreement (contract) during our first full session, along with some basic personal details.
