About me and my therapy practice
I'm Grace, a qualified integrative counsellor with an MSc in Integrative Counselling, awarded with Distinction, and a Registered Member of the BACP.
I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can feel genuinely heard, understood and accepted. I believe that a trusting therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful change, and my approach is collaborative, down-to-earth and tailored to you.
My therapeutic approach combines Gestalt and psychodynamic therapy, helping you explore how past experiences, childhood relationships and unconscious patterns may be affecting your thoughts, feelings and relationships today.
I also focus on your present experiences, helping you develop greater self-awareness, process difficult emotions and find healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.
I work at your pace, without pressure or judgement, recognising that everyone's experiences and therapeutic needs are unique.
I have extensive experience supporting adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties and significant life changes.
I have particular experience working with survivors of domestic abuse, coercive control and sexual violence, including through my work at Anawim Women's Centre. I'm also a trained Own My Life facilitator, supporting women to recognise abusive patterns and rebuild confidence and independence.
My experience within alcohol and substance misuse services has given me a strong understanding of addiction, recovery and the complex relationship between trauma, shame and substance use.
My Master's dissertation explored the treatment of anorexia nervosa, further developing my understanding of eating disorders and the psychological factors associated with them.
You don't need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. Whether you're facing a particular difficulty or simply feeling overwhelmed, we can work together to explore what's happening and find a way forward.
My first session
I understand that taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, particularly if you've never had therapy before. My aim is to help you feel comfortable, welcomed and supported from the very beginning.
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and explore what has brought you to counselling. I'll invite you to share a little about yourself, the difficulties you're experiencing and what you hope to gain from therapy.
There's no pressure to share anything you're not ready to discuss. We will work at your pace, and you are always in control of what you choose to explore.
I'll carry out a gentle initial assessment to help me understand your current circumstances, emotional wellbeing, relevant history and any particular needs or concerns. We'll also discuss confidentiality, how counselling works and what you can expect from our sessions together.
I believe that feeling safe, comfortable and understood by your counsellor is essential. Our first meeting gives you the opportunity to ask questions, get a feel for my approach and decide whether I'm the right therapist for you.
We can also discuss your goals for counselling and whether you would prefer short-term, focused work or longer-term therapy.
