About me and my therapy practice
Hi
I'm a person-centred counsellor, and a person with my own life experiences.
I mention this because life has a way of bringing us into contact with things we might never have fully understood otherwise. My own experiences have shaped my understanding of people and the different situations life can bring, while also reminding me that everyone's experience is their own.
I'm not perfect I have made mistakes and there are things I've looked back on and wished I'd done differently. Sometimes, we make decisions based on what we know, feel or understand at the time, only to see things differently later.
Maybe there are things in your own life that you find difficult to talk about, or choices you're not proud of. You might worry about how someone else will see you if you speak openly about them. I want you to know that you don't have to present a polished version of yourself here. You can talk about things as they are, without feeling you have to edit or hide what you're feeling.
Anger, hurt, frustration, confusion, sadness, or even the things that are difficult to put into words can all be brought into the room. There might not be words that can't explain how you feel
Sometimes what isn’t said can be just as important as what is. There can be space for that too.
My experience with Road Victims Trust has also deepened my understanding of how differently people can respond to trauma, grief and sudden loss, and that there isn’t one “right” way to feel or process what has happened.
I’m particularly interested in supporting people experiencing grief and loss, life changes, chronic pain and transitions, and changes or difficulties within family and relationships.
Practice description
I offer person-centred counselling online or via phone call for young people and adults age 18 plus giving you the flexibility to have your sessions somewhere you feel comfortable, private and able to be yourself.
Online counselling doesn’t mean you have to sit at a desk or be perfectly still for the whole session. If you feel more comfortable sitting on the sofa, having a drink, using a fidget toy, doodling or moving around a little, that’s okay. What matters to me is that you feel comfortable enough to be yourself and engage in the session in a way that works for you.
I offer open-ended sessions, so there isn’t a fixed number of sessions you need to commit to from the beginning.
I also offer short term counselling 6-12 sessions. This can give you a sense of structure and allow us to review where you are as we approach the end.
I’m not there to give you a list of answers or tell you what you should do. I’m there to listen, understand and work alongside you as you explore what’s going on for you, helping you make sense of things in your own way.
And yes, humour is allowed. Laughter can be part of therapy too.
Humour can be an important part of who we are and how we relate to others. Sometimes it might be a way of protecting ourselves or moving away from something that feels difficult, and if it feels useful, we can gently explore that together when the time feels right for you.
But it doesn’t always need to be analysed. Sometimes something is simply funny, and that’s okay too. You’re still allowed to laugh
If it feels helpful, we can explore different ways of expressing or understanding what you’re experiencing, using pens and paper, writing, or other creative approaches. There’s no expectation to use these — they’re simply another option if they feel right for you.
