About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I am Maria.
Is there a belief you have about yourself or your life that you treat as a fact but have never actually examined it? Or maybe there’s been a painful event that still lingers, a relationship issue, or feelings of grief, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem or self-worth? There might be something deeper that isn’t quite understood, something that’s hard to put into words and stops you from having a happy and fulfilled life. Perhaps it is a family issue, a dependency on something, a health issue or a childhood experience, thoughts of suicide or self-harm, intrusive thoughts, feelings of overwhelm and stress, a life transition or a difficult relationship with food, your identity or self image.
Perhaps you’ve talked about it with friends or family and were temporarily relieved, but that ‘thing’ still persists and things aren’t quite right. Maybe you thought that if you distract yourself, stop thinking about it and keep busy, it will go away, but these ways of coping no longer work.
It seems you are curious about what you can do to make things better and may seek specific help, such as like therapy and counselling.
I am an experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist counsellor and I put the human relationship at the heart of what I do. I aim to create a safe, empathetic, non-judgemental space where you can feel comfortable to talk about your feelings and experiences, no matter how difficult they may be.
I am committed to support you and work alongside you at your own pace without pressure, truly listening and noticing what you are feeling. I am interested in your whole self, your past and present, your experiences, relationships and what is happening in your life and I will help you develop a deeper understanding of your feelings and experiences.
For deep real change we will create a meaningful relationship where you will be able to talk freely and feel understood and seen.
Practice description
I work psychodynamically, analysing patterns of behaviour to understand how your past experiences and relationships influence your present life. My practice adapts to each individual’s situation, drawing from various techniques to create a unique therapeutic relationship.
We will work together at your pace, explore your inner world to help you understand your past and its impact on your present. I am considerate, reflective, warm and empathetic. I build trust and will support you to uncover what is holding you back from having a more fulfilled and happy life. I believe that deep real lasting change can be achieved from a strong and meaningful relationship where you feel safe to think, feel and explore. This will eventually allow you to move forward.
I have worked with young persons, young adults and adults with a range of emotional issues and difficulties, from various backgrounds and walks of life, and always prioritise building a relationship with curiosity to make you feel heard and supported.
My first session
I work in person from Hertford, Wheathampstead, Luton and online.
If you are interested, I offer a 15-minute free phone consultation to discuss your needs, ask me any questions and to understand if we are right for each other.
If we decide to move forward, I will invite you to our first meeting for a more in-depth consultation which will last up to 1 hour, to understand your history and what brings you to therapy. After that our weekly meetings will last 50 minutes.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you,
Maria.
