About me and my therapy practice
My approach to counselling is non-judgemental and honest. I work in an integrative way which means I utilise different approaches and techniques in my work, and tailor it around each person individually. I have a professional background working in addiction, mental health and sexual violence. I have worked with people through their recovery journey on a 1:1 basis and in groups, and have helped them to achieve not only recovery but increased self-worth and compassion, and helped them to build back other parts of their life in their own time. I currently work for a sexual violence charity and have a lot of experience working with people who have experienced trauma. I work in a sensitive and informed way through these, and offer a kind space where trust can be built, as everyone deserves a space where they feel safe and can be heard and believed.
Academically I hold a degree in Neuroscience and a masters in Psychology. From this I take an understanding of the brain and behaviour which I utilise in my work, if it feels right.
In my work I focus on the therapeutic relationship that forms between us, therapy needs a strong foundation for it to be the most effective. I value honesty and up front communication so please don’t be afraid to give feedback and let me know what it is you would like and benefit most from. Although therapy often deals with serious topics, I don't think the space has to be serious all the time and I leave room for humour and whatever else may come up.
Whether you have a clear goal for what you want from therapy, or just feel something isn't right and you want to share it, we can work on it together.
I offer a free consultation so we can chat and get a sense if we would work well together. There is no pressure to continue after this.
