About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Amanda, an integrative counsellor, registered member of the BACP and the person behind Graceful Therapy Counselling and Breathwork.

You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed or exhausted from holding everything together.  Perhaps you are living with chronic pain, illness or cancer, facing grief or change, or no longer feeling quite like yourself.  Whatever has brought you here, you do not need to have it all worked out before coming to counselling.

For me, the relationship we build is at the heart of the work.  I want you to feel able to come as you are, without judgement or pressure.  I will listen, try to understand your experience and work alongside you, rather than tell you what you should do.  We will work in a way that feels comfortable for you, focusing on what feels most important to you.

I draw on person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT approaches, adapting how I work to suit you.  We might explore how earlier experiences affect you now, look at pattens keeping you stuck, or find practical ways to help manage what you are facing.

My work is body-aware and somatic-informed.  Our emotional and physical wellbeing are closely connected, and difficulties do not always show up through words alone.  Where helpful, I may include grounding, breath awareness, body scans or relaxation.  Everything is optional and adapted to your comfort and needs.

I have a particular interest in supporting adults affected by chronic pain, long-term illness and cancer, including fatigue, uncertainty and changes in identity.  I also work with anxiety, low mood, stress, grief, overwhelm, life changes and self-worth.  My practice is neuro-affirming and welcomes different ways of experiencing the world.

Alongside counselling, I offer individual and group breathwork sessions by booking.  I work with adults in Ballymena and Newtownabbey.  Reaching out can feel like a big step, especially if you are used to managing alone.  You do not need to know exactly what to say, we can begin wherever you are.
