About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Jane. I believe that being human means we all experience struggles at different points in our lives. None of us has everything figured out, and reaching out to talk about it can be really beneficial.

I understand how hard it can be to come to therapy. It’s not always easy to talk about things that are painful, confusing or difficult to make sense of, and sometimes we can find ourselves stuck in patterns that seem to keep circling back and causing us distress.

Sometimes simply having a safe space to talk openly, with someone who listens with compassion and empathy, can be incredibly healing. At other times, we may need to look a little deeper to understand what is happening and why, in order to bring about meaningful and lasting change. This might involve exploring earlier experiences and relationships, and how these may have shaped the way we see ourselves and others today.

My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different therapeutic ideas depending on you and what feels most helpful. I don’t believe therapy is about being given answers or being told what to do. It’s about developing a deeper understanding of ourselves, with the support of someone who can offer a different perspective and help us explore things that may be difficult to see on our own.

The relationship between therapist and client is at the heart of my work. I aim to create a space that feels warm, genuine and accepting, while also being thoughtful and appropriately challenging when helpful. I value humour, honesty and real human connection, alongside the professionalism, boundaries and confidentiality that are essential to good therapy.

Alongside my psychotherapy training, I bring many years of experience working with people through my background in fitness, yoga and wellbeing. I am neurodiversity-aware and affirming,  trauma informed, and aim to work with an understanding and respect for the different ways people experience and make sense of themselves and the world around them.

Practice description

My training is integrative, meaning that I draw on different approaches depending what will suit you best. My main practice is via Zoom, and I can also offer some face-to-face sessions in Muswell Hill. I work with adults aged 18 and over.

My experience as a yoga teacher has broadened my perspective as a therapist, the ancient yoga philosophy offers a beautiful spiritual element and encourages the development of self compassion and self acceptance, and the release of shame and self hate, which is so often at the heart of the work we do together.

I work with adults with learning disability,  I am neuro-affirming, seeing difference and not just disability.

My style is collaborative - I am not silent, we will be in relationship and conversation together. I will be by your side and on your side, and I will be your ally throughout the whole process.

I have an interest in toxic enmeshed relationships, and help people see how they got themselves trapped in what felt like love at the time, but turned out to be toxic.

I believe that our family of origin and our early experiences are key to shaping us now, and often in ways that we are not aware of.  Exploring these early experiences can be incredibly helpful, not to assign blame, but to bring clarity and understanding, which is the essential step before we can start to let things go and find new ways of responding and feeling, which serve us better.  This can be a very liberating and healing experience, and can be transformational.

Our work together will be compassionate and thoughtful, where you will feel understood and supported as you explore the things that challenge you now.

I offer both short term and extended counselling, sometimes it's not always clear at the start how many sessions are needed.

I offer a free 20 minute (no obligation) Zoom consultation to allow you to see if we are a good fit together - please contact me to arrange this.
