About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Nic, a relational, integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor in Bristol and online across the UK.

I work with adults over 18. I aim to create a safe and inclusive environment for individuals of all identities and backgrounds, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender identity, disability, neurodivergence, immigration status and religion. I’m committed to anti-oppressive practice in all forms personally and professionally and I strive to be affirming and responsive to the needs and experiences of all clients.

I offer attentive client-led, trauma-informed therapy to help you feel more connected to who you are and how you want to live. Many people find that meaningful change unfolds over months rather than weeks, so my work is often open-ended. If you’d prefer something shorter or more focused, that’s absolutely possible. We’ll agree what’s right for you and keep checking in.

Being relational means I believe the relationship we build together is central to therapy. Rather than something done to you, it's collaborative and something we do together, and it's within that connection that real change can happen. Being integrative means I don't stick to one fixed approach. I draw on different ways of working and adapt them to what you need, always centring you as the expert on your own life.

Whatever you’re going through, I’m interested in your individual story. Sessions are a warm, accepting space to be yourself and talk openly, without judgement. You don't need to prepare anything before our sessions - though if you'd like to, that's welcome too. Come as you are, and we'll find our way together, with curiosity and compassion, at whatever pace feels right for you.

Practice description

People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons: anxiety, depression or low mood, stress and burnout, grief, relationships, big life changes, or a sense that something just isn't right and they can't quite name it.

I've supported people through many stages of life, with particular experience in the pregnancy and postpartum period, parenthood, perimenopause and menopause, and university life. I also work with recovery from addiction, relationship difficulties and questions of identity and belonging.

My approach is trauma-informed and affirming of LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent identities, grounded in anti-oppressive practice. I work with people who are neurodivergent or suspect they might be, including the anxiety, overwhelm and self-criticism that often comes with it. I also support parents and carers of neurodivergent children, including the exhaustion, worry and difficult emotions that can come with navigating schools, assessments and everyday life, as well as the questions that can arise about your own identity as a parent.

Intercultural awareness is central to how I work. As an adult Third Culture Kid (TCK) who has lived and worked internationally and cross-culturally, I know how moving between places and cultures can bring richness as well as loss and uncertainty. I'm curious about how culture, background, language and community shape each person's experience, whether you've lived across countries or still live in the place where you grew up, and I never assume that my way of seeing things is yours. I believe that understanding someone means understanding the world they live in, because our relationships, families, communities and wider society all shape how we experience ourselves.

My first session

Getting in touch is the hardest part, so I've tried to make it easy.

Send me a short email saying hello, and if you'd like, a sentence or two about what's brought you here. We'll arrange a free 15-minute video or phone call, whichever you prefer, so you can get a feel for me and what sessions would be like before deciding anything. If we decide we'd like to work together, we'll then schedule your sessions.
