About me and my therapy practice

I provide therapy for those affected by childhood trauma and attachment difficulties. This might be rooted in parental separation or neglect, caregivers with alcohol and other substance dependency, or loss and grief. I also work with people who carry a sense of sadness and dissatisfaction and want to find a space to talk and express difficult feelings.

My background is in the arts, and I have a particular interest in creative expression as a process for communicating thoughts and emotions. I have extensive experience working with the challenges faced by creative professionals and performers.

I also have knowledge and experience of neurodivergent-affirming supportive practice, as well as supporting those who live with, and care for, neurodivergent family members or partners.

As a qualified Psychodynamic therapeutic counsellor, registered with both the BACP and UKCP. I have experience working with people whose lives are affected by:

- depression

- anxiety

- grief

- harmful relationships

- historical trauma

- identity and self-image

Practice description

My training is in Psychodynamic therapeutic counselling, which seeks to find new understanding through collaborative discussion and thought. We will pay close attention to the story of your life as we explore memories and emotions together, however they appear. I will help you look for connections between your experiences, your family, other close relationships, and current state of mind.

I will offer you a confidential space where you are invited to bring your thoughts and feelings, whether they be related to that morning, six months ago, or fifteen years ago. Through exploring your experience, we might find new understanding about current struggles you might have in relationships, at work, or in day-to-day life in general. This understanding can then help you build towards a more hopeful future.

Our initial session is a chance to meet for the first time and assess whether my style of therapy will be a good fit for you. We will discuss what you hope might happen in the course of our work together.

My first session

Introductory sessions last for 50 minutes and are charged at £30.

Our first session is a full-length appointment offered at half price to acknowledge that you may not yet be fully committed to weekly sessions with me.

During this session, I will ask you for a general overview of your current state of mind and your reasons for seeking therapy. We will also cover key points from your past experiences that I believe may be relevant. Additionally, we will discuss your hopes for what you would like to achieve through therapy, whether in the short, medium, or long term.

After the first session, you will have the time and space to determine if I’m the right fit for your needs. There is no obligation to commit to ongoing sessions until you feel it's the right step for you.

In subsequent sessions, the focus will be on what comes to your mind. Each week will begin with me asking where you would like to start, allowing our interaction to unfold in the direction you feel ready to explore.
