About me and my therapy practice
A Place To Be. A Way Forward.
Drawing on experience in NHS and community outreach settings, I offer compassionate, grounded counselling tailored to your needs. Our work is collaborative and guided by what you hope to gain from counselling.
Whether you are anxious, overwhelmed, experiencing low mood or depression, bereavement or burnout, or life simply feels like too much, counselling offers space to explore your difficulties and consider new possibilities.
My approach is evidence-based and trauma-informed, considering the whole person, including adverse childhood experiences and circumstances. Trained in Humanistic Counselling with Transactional Analysis, I also draw on Gestalt techniques to explore feelings and present-moment experiences.
My background in research and teaching in medical schools has given me insight into the pressures of academic and professional life, including managing uncertainty, competing demands and balancing work with personal life.
My research into the effects of birdsong on positive and transcendent emotions has deepened my interest in the stress-reducing and restorative qualities of nature, and how these can support emotional wellbeing.
Together, we can explore patterns contributing to your difficulties, uncover and draw on your strengths, develop ways of coping and work towards meaningful change.
With Greater Awareness Comes The Possibility Of Change
Counselling is not always about finding immediate answers. Some feelings and experiences take time to understand.
Alongside exploring what troubles you, we can consider beliefs shaping how you see yourself and the world, reflect on what matters to you and explore ways to nurture your psychological wellbeing.
Beyond managing difficulties, counselling can offer opportunities for personal growth and fulfilment.
Looking Ahead
Counselling offers a space where you can be yourself, without judgement or expectation, while exploring possibilities for greater understanding, wellbeing and change.
Practice description
I believe that feeling heard and understood can create the environment for us to make sense of ourselves and our experiences.
My approach is humanistic and relational, grounded in my training in Humanistic Counselling with Transactional Analysis. At the heart of this is an interest in you as an individual – your experiences, your relationships and what matters to you.
I aim to offer a calm, warm and non-judgemental space where we can explore your concerns together, at a pace that feels right for you.
Arrange an Initial Conversation
If you would like to enquire about counselling, you are welcome to get in touch by text or email.
Please include your name in your message. I aim to respond within two working days. You are welcome to keep your first message brief, as we can explore things in more detail during our initial telephone conversation.
Cancellation and Attendance
I understand that unexpected changes can happen. If you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment, I kindly ask for at least 48 hours' notice. Further details about cancellation and attendance arrangements are set out in the Client Counselling Agreement.
Where to Begin
Taking the first step can feel daunting. You need not have everything worked out before getting in touch. We can begin by talking about what brings you here and what you hope might change.
My first session
We can arrange a free 15-minute telephone conversation to introduce ourselves and discuss what brings you to counselling. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
If we both feel that working together would be a good fit, we can arrange an initial 50-minute assessment session, charged at my standard rate of £65.
During the assessment, we can explore in greater depth what has brought you to counselling and reflect on your short-term goals, as well as what longer-term psychological wellbeing might look like for you.
I will also ask about your physical and mental health, any medication you are taking, previous counselling experiences and emergency contact details. I will ask you to confirm that you have read the Client Privacy Notice and Client Counselling Agreement, and we can discuss any questions you may have.
The assessment also gives us an opportunity to consider how we might work together.
At the end of the assessment, we can reflect on how best to move forward and agree on the next steps together.
