About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Jacqui

I work with people experiencing anxiety, low mood, difficulties in relationships or struggling with aspects of their lives, past or present. This might include experiences of trauma, feeling overwhelmed, or finding that things from the past continue to affect how you feel about yourself and others.

  • Making sense of your feelings — sometimes we can understand something intellectually but still struggle with how it feels. There may be emotions that are difficult to name, experiences that are hard to put into words, or things you've not had the opportunity to talk about openly.
  • Understanding your body and nervous system — anxiety, stress and trauma can affect us physically as well as emotionally. We can explore how these experiences show up in your body and nervous system, and look at simple techniques that may help you manage feelings of anxiety or overwhelm.
  • Exploring past experiences — our earlier experiences can influence how we see ourselves, how we relate to others and how we respond to situations in the present. Sometimes the ways we learned to cope or protect ourselves in the past continue to affect us. Counselling can help explore these patterns and understand them in the context of your life.
  • Finding your own way forward — as you develop a better understanding of yourself, you may begin to recognise your needs, what matters to you and what you would like to change. My role isn't to make decisions for you or tell you how to live your life, but to support you in exploring your options and what feels right for you.

My approach is person-centred, which means I place importance on the relationship we build and on understanding your experience from your point of view.

I take a trauma-informed and neuro-affirming approach, recognising that people experience and respond to the world in different ways. Understanding you as an individual, rather than making assumptions about what you need or how you should be.

Practice description

I provide 50 minute counselling sessions  for both short term and long term work.

Currently I am only available for online counselling sessions, I will send you a secure link given from a private and confidential space.

My first session

I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation before we begin working together. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other a little, talk about what has brought you to counselling and discuss any questions you might have. It also gives you a chance to get a sense of me and how I work, and for us both to consider whether I might be the right counsellor for you.

Our first session will give us more time to explore what's been happening in your life, what you would like help with and what you hope to get from counselling. There is no expectation that you will have everything worked out beforehand. We can take our time getting to know each other and deciding what feels important to focus on.
