About me and my therapy practice

Welcome to Paul Davies Counselling Services, where I prioritise acceptance and your mental well-being.

I am an Integrated Psychotherapist, as well as a Certified Life Coach and Clinical Hypnotherapist. I call myself a “Therapeutic Coach”, and this means is that I am equipped to create an approach that best fits you as a human being to talk about whatever you want to.

I work to help you find a sense of balance and try to resolve your issues through therapy, and then, if required, we can shift into a separate coaching phase. This helps you to actively find practical and positive ways forward and meet your personal goals.

I'm not an algorithm, neither are you, and I believe in the importance of human contact and interaction to get the real support a machine can't bring. I won't just tell you what you want to hear, instead we will talk about whatever you need to resolve to find balance and calm.

Whoever we are, we can all grow and become our authentic self and find peace in our own skin.

Being able to shift from psychotherapist into coaching helps us to take the therapeutic growth and then work out ways of using the skills you have developed for the future. I can offer a 'Two-stage' approach to find balance and then shift into a more proactive approach to make lasting changes you can manage yourself and continue to grow.

I genuinely believe in the transformative power of conversation. My mission is to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals seeking to explore their thoughts and feelings. I offer a range of counselling services tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. With a focus on empathy and understanding, I strive to foster personal growth and well-being. Here, I hope you will find a space to reflect, heal, and gain clarity in your journey.

Practice description

At Paul Davies Counselling Services, I believe in the power of conversation and therapeutic Coaching. My aim is to provide a safe and supportive environment for you, whoever you are, to work through your problems. I use a range of approaches to help you navigate life's challenges and design a unique support service package just for you using counselling, life coaching or clinical hypnotherapy.

As an Integrative Psychotherapist, rather than focussing on one specific approach, or sometimes described as 'modality' we are trained in a wide range of theories to better help you find the solutions you are looking for.

The different modalities include:

CBT. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. (Focuses on your behaviour)

Person Centred Therapy A humanistic and non-directive approach.

Psychodynamic. A long term deep examination of past influences.

Transactional Analysis. Examines ways of communication, and social interactions.

Using a combination of some of the above, it allows us to explore what is troubling you, where it potentially began and what we can do to bring about positive change.

What I can help with:

Anger management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Cancer and its impact, Depression, Grief, Loss, Men’s mental health, Self acceptance for neurodivergence and cognitive difference, post diagnosis support for older Autistic people including Personal development, Relationships, Self-esteem and acceptance, Stress, Work related issues, Workplace/job coaching.

Clinical Hypnotherapy can be used for anxiety, building confidence, exam nerves, public speaking, stress.

I try to use what I call 'conversational counselling' whereby we will try and maintain a comfortable level of enquiry, even when I might challenge or dig a little deeper into what we are talking about. I am a firm believer in the power and importance of maintaining a sense of humour, and am not afraid of being the butt of the joke myself!

My first session

I offer one free 30 minute Zoom meeting to allow us to discuss what you are looking for support in. It helps us to see if we can work together and build a good rapport. There is no pressure to commit to any contracted hours at this stage. If you wish to continue, I will email a contract for you to read through which details what you can expect from me, and what I will need from you.

I have found through experience that many of my clients prefer to work online as it keeps costs down and allows you to feel more comfortable in your safe space. It can be just as effective as face to face and some people prefer this approach as the lack of travel fits better into busy schedules.

It is 100% fine to be nervous about any kind of therapeutic work, but hopefully we can work through those. The first session will include talking through the contract and discussing the broader issues you are seeking support with. This then allows us to identify the keys areas for us to focus on and how to approach them. We will work together as a team, but you will always be in control of what we talk about and in how much depth. I will/may occasionally challenge you to think about specific topics, feelings, incidents if I believe it will help bring progress, but I will always try to do this in a positive and empowering way.
