About me and my therapy practice

Choosing a therapist can feel like a surprisingly difficult task. You're trying to get a sense of someone you've never met, all from a few paragraphs on a website. So, I thought I'd skip the formal introduction and tell you a little about the person behind the therapist.

If we were to work together, you'd quickly discover that I'm a bit of a nerd. I love gaming, anime and travelling. My gaming backlog is out of control, my travel list is even worse, and I refuse to discuss how much caffeine I drink. And yes, I genuinely believe buying another game before finishing the last one is a perfectly reasonable life choice.

I'm quite a down-to-earth person, and my approach to counselling reflects that. I believe in being genuine, honest and having real conversations. Life isn't always easy, and I don't think pretending otherwise helps anyone. There's room for humour, difficult conversations, uncomfortable truths and the occasional bit of swearing. I won't dress things up in jargon or tell you what you want to hear just for the sake of it.

I want our work together to be meaningful, helping you make sense of what's going on and explore things at a pace that feels right for you.

Practice description

If you’re thinking about counselling or psychotherapy but don’t know where to start or what to expect, don’t worry, you don’t need to have it figured out yet. You don’t need to have a huge problem, or even know exactly what you want to talk about. Maybe there’s something specific you’d like to work through, or maybe you’re not quite sure. That’s okay. We can take some time to explore it together.

For me, the relationship between us is an important part of the work. I’ll take the time to get to know you, understand your experiences and what you’d like from therapy, and approach what you bring with curiosity and compassion.

Therapy can be a place to talk about whatever is going on for you, whether that’s something that’s happened recently, something from your past, or something you can’t quite put your finger on yet.

I work in a humanistic and integrative way, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches depending on what feels helpful for you, rather than expecting everyone to fit the same approach. No two people are the same, so I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.

I won’t tell you what you should do or give you all the answers. We’ll work together to explore what’s going on, work out what might be helpful, and find a way through it. You don’t have to know exactly where to start. We can make sense of it together.

Sessions are 50 minutes and are usually weekly, although we can discuss what works best for you. Therapy can be shorter or longer term, depending on what you’d like to work on, and we’ll review this together as we go. Sessions are £50 and can be held either in person or online.

My first session

I offer an initial meeting which is an opportunity for us to talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you're hoping for and anything you feel would be useful for me to know. During this meeting, I'll also complete a form with you, which helps me gain a better understanding of your circumstances, experiences and current needs. This will involve some questions about your personal history, relationships, mental and physical health, and any other relevant information. It also gives you a chance to see if you feel I am the right person for you and what it would be like for us to work together.

The initial meeting is £30 and takes place online. We can discuss your preferred way of working here, so don't worry if you prefer face-to-face sessions.

If we both feel that we're a good fit and decide to continue, we'll agree on a regular day and time for your sessions. We'll also agree whether you'll be attending in person or online.

I'll then send you my contract to read through and sign. This sets up the practical arrangements for our work together, including things like sessions, payment and cancellations. If you have any questions about the contract, we can talk through these together in our first session before you sign it.

Once payment for your first session has been received, your appointment will be booked and I'll see you then.
