About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome,

I’m Deb and I aim to understand what life looks, feels and sounds like for you.

I work in a person-centred way, which means you bring to therapy what matters to you, I don’t give you advice or tell you what to do.

In today’s word of quick fixes and the constant pressure of what you ‘should’ be or do, therapy is the space to slow things down, reflect and start to understand yourself.

I offer you the opportunity to carve out 50 minutes just for you.

No demands

No responsibilities

No expectations

Just you, being you.

Perhaps you don’t recognise who you are anymore. You’ve lost your spark. You feel snappy and irritable but can’t work out why. You just can’t seem to relax anymore, or you always seem to be doing something but never really get anything done.

Something feels wrong, something has to change, things can’t go on the way they are.

This first step is the hardest – reaching out.

Together we can make sense of what’s happening in the here and now, and together we can be curious about the patterns that are emerging, discovering beliefs formed over many years.

Together we’ll challenge these outdated and unhelpful ways of thinking, allowing you to see the way forward more clearly.

With deeper understanding of yourself comes clarity about what really matters.

And with that comes freedom.

The freedom to be your true self once more.

The therapy space is flexible to use however you choose – some clients come for a few sessions; others prefer longer-term support. Weekly, fortnightly or even monthly. This is your therapy and you’re in control of how often and how long you attend.

I am currently offering online therapy only - this allows you to access therapy in a flexible way, that meets your needs - no need to travel to a clinic, you can access therapy at home, in surroundings that are comfortable for you.

Practice description

I am a BACP Registered counsellor experienced in working with anxiety, stress, low mood, trauma and relationships. I currently volunteer as a counsellor at Nottinghamshire MIND alongside running a private practice.

Alongside talking therapy, I can offer Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) for anxiety and single-incident traumas (such as an accident, for example) as part of ongoing therapy. This is a more structured technique that reprocesses and integrates stuck memories. This can be discussed with me and integrated into our sessions depending on your needs.

I also currently work at Nottinghamshire MIND as a Recovery Coach, supporting adults with mental health issues to develop tools and techniques to improve their everyday life. If this could be beneficial to you, I am happy to integrate my knowledge of these techniques into our therapy together.

I have also worked at Nottinghamshire Crisis Sanctuary and volunteered as a crisis textline volunteer at SHOUT.

Experience & Training:

BACP Registered member 421959

Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

EMDR Level 2 (IPHM accreditation)

Online & Telephone Counselling

Mental health and the body: Treating Trauma (Carolyn Spring)

Level 2 Certificate in awareness of mental health problems

Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring

I have personal experience of stress, anxiety, menopause, divorce and separation, chronic health conditions and emergency/life threatening medical issues. I have a curiosity about the human condition, and have been interested in self-development for many years.

I believe that every one of us has the ability to reach our potential with the right people around us. People who accept us for who we are and give us the space to grow. Every day I see that offering this to people helps them to offer it to themselves, ultimately empowering them to accept themselves for who they are and allowing themselves the ability to grow.
