About me and my therapy practice
I offer person-centred counselling for adults and young people in Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, and online.
Each client is at the heart of everything I do - you are an expert in your own life after all. I hope to be someone who can sit beside you, whatever situation you find yourself to be in. I have worked with a broad range of clients and have found a specialism in working with those navigating big life transitions, such as chronic and terminal diagnosis, relationship endings, loss and bereavement.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I bring together aspects of transactional analysis, narrative and compassion focused therapy into a bespoke approach for every individual client.
I offer a free 15-minute telephone or online introductory call before booking your first session. This gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what has brought you to counselling, answer any questions you may have, and consider whether I might be the right counsellor for you.
The most important part of therapy in my view is the relationship between the therapist and the client. Over my time in practice I have been surprised by the unlikely bonds that have formed in my sessions. Creating a space where someone can feel not just heard but understood, regardless of our differences, is where the healing can happen.
Practice description
I offer person-centred counselling for adults in Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone and online.
My Tunbridge Wells practice is a calm, private and welcoming space with parking available. Online sessions are available for those who prefer the flexibility of working from home. I also have the availability of a comfortable clinic space in central Maidstone.
I Have extensive experience supporting people affected by chronic and terminal illness, cancer and end-of-life issues, including the emotional impact on individuals and those close to them.
I offer both short-term and longer-term counselling, depending on your circumstances and what feels right for you. My aim is to provide a thoughtful and compassionate space where you can feel heard, understood and able to explore what matters to you.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, understand what has brought you to counselling and begin to establish a trusting therapeutic relationship.
I may ask more questions and make more notes than I would in subsequent sessions, as this helps me build a clear understanding of your circumstances, what you would like support with and what you hope to gain from counselling.
We will discuss how we will work together, including confidentiality, boundaries and what you can expect from the therapeutic process. There will also be time for you to ask any questions and decide whether you feel comfortable working with me.
Where anxiety or depression are presenting concerns, I may use brief questionnaires to establish a baseline. These can help us understand how you are feeling at the beginning of therapy and monitor changes over time.
You don’t need to prepare anything or know exactly where to start. We can take things at your pace and begin with whatever feels most important to you.
