About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Liberty, and I'm an integrative counsellor and registered member of the BACP. I understand that reaching out for therapy can feel like a significant step, and my aim is to provide a warm, welcoming, and compassionate space where you can feel safe enough to explore whatever has brought you here.

I believe that healing begins when we feel truly heard, understood, and accepted. Whether you're experiencing anxiety, grief, loss, trauma, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, or navigating a challenging period in your life, I will work alongside you at a pace that feels right for you. Together, we can make sense of your experiences, deepen your self-understanding, and help you move forward in a way that honours your experiences and the journey that has brought you here today.

Building a trusting therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my practice. I offer a confidential, non-judgemental space where you can speak openly and honestly, explore difficult thoughts and emotions, and develop greater awareness, self-compassion, and resilience.

My work is integrative, with person-centred therapy forming the foundation of our relationship. Alongside this, I may draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis (TA), mindfulness, and somatic-informed approaches where they feel helpful and appropriate for you. This allows us to work in a way that is flexible, collaborative, and responsive to your individual needs.

Alongside my private practice, I have NHS experience supporting individuals affected by grief and loss, trauma, life-limiting diagnoses, and significant life transitions. Through this work, I have developed a particular interest in helping people navigate loss, change, uncertainty, and the emotional impact these experiences can have on daily life.

I offer both short-term and longer-term counselling, with sessions available face-to-face from my therapy room in Heaton Moor, Stockport, as well as online and by telephone across the UK.

Practice description

I see therapy as a collaborative process, where we work together to explore whatever is happening in your life in a way that feels safe, manageable, and meaningful to you. I aim to create a calm, supportive environment where you can speak openly about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgement.

In our sessions, there is no expectation to know exactly what to say or where to begin. Some clients come with a clear focus, while others arrive feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of what they need. Wherever you find yourself, we'll start from there.

I work relationally and adapt therapy to your individual needs. Together, we may explore current difficulties, past experiences, recurring patterns, relationships, or the impact life events have had on you. Alongside opportunities for reflection and insight, I may introduce practical tools, grounding techniques, mindfulness, or somatic awareness exercises where these feel beneficial to the work we are doing.

My approach is paced according to your needs, with a focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship and helping you feel emotionally safe throughout the process. I believe meaningful change often comes not from forcing ourselves forward, but from developing a deeper understanding of ourselves, our experiences, and the ways we have learned to cope.

Whether you are seeking short-term support around a specific issue or longer-term therapy for deeper exploration, I will work alongside you with curiosity, compassion, and respect, helping you move towards the changes you would like to make while honouring your experiences and personal journey.

My first session

Before our first session, I will send you some assessment paperwork to complete, along with a counselling agreement that outlines important information about how we will work together. This gives you an opportunity to review the practical aspects of therapy and ask any questions you may have.

I also offer a brief introductory telephone call before our first appointment. This gives us a chance to discuss what has brought you to therapy, explore what you are hoping to gain from counselling, and consider whether we feel like a good fit to work together. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions about the counselling process.

At the start of our first session, I will invite you to complete a short CORE-10 wellbeing questionnaire, which helps us gain an understanding of how you have been feeling recently and can provide a useful baseline for our work together.

I complete assessment and administrative tasks before the session wherever possible, allowing our first appointment to focus on you and your experiences. The session is intended to reflect how I work throughout therapy, providing a supportive, collaborative, and confidential space where you can begin exploring whatever has brought you to counselling at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
