About me and my therapy practice

I work with adults navigating relational rupture or separation.

This may be something you are anticipating, something you have initiated, something that has been initiated by your partner, or something you are adjusting to after the relationship has ended.

Separation can bring grief, uncertainty, anger, anxiety, rejection and a profound disruption to your sense of self and what comes next.

I offer a confidential and impartial space to slow things down, help you understand your responses and explore what you need as you find your way through.

Our work will develop around your unique circumstances and needs. My role is not to tell you whether to stay, leave, reconcile or move on, but to help you understand what you are experiencing and develop greater clarity about yourself and what comes next.

My work is person-centred and relational, informed by attachment, grief and loss.

I offer individual counselling online across the UK and both online and in person in Northern Ireland.

Practice description

Separation can affect much more than the relationship itself. It can unsettle your sense of identity, security, belonging and future, and can bring conflicting emotions that are difficult to make sense of.

Early in the work, the focus may simply be on helping things feel more manageable — slowing the pace, making sense of what is happening and finding enough stability to think more clearly.

From there, we may explore what has happened, how you are responding, what feels most difficult now, and the patterns, losses or relationship experiences that may be shaping your reactions.

As the work develops, the focus may shift towards greater clarity, adjustment, rebuilding a sense of self, and considering what you need as you move forward.

I work in a way that is guided by what you have experienced, with particular attention to how attachment, relationship patterns, grief and loss may shape what you are going through.

The aim is not to leave you defined by what has happened, but to help you make sense of it, strengthen your capacity to respond, and develop greater confidence in how you move forward. The pace and focus of counselling develop around what feels most important and useful to you now and in the future.

My first session

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin to understand what has brought you to counselling, what is happening for you now and what you may need from the work.

There is no expectation that you arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about or what you hope to achieve. We can take time to make sense of where you are, what feels most pressing and what might be helpful to focus on first.

I will also explain how I work, confidentiality and the practical arrangements for counselling, and you will have an opportunity to ask any questions. The first session gives us both a chance to consider whether working together feels right for you.

If we decide to continue, we can begin to develop the focus of the work together around your priorities. That focus may become clearer or change as counselling progresses.
