About me and my therapy practice
Hi, welcome! I'm Lucy Bishop (she/her), an integrative therapist based in the Goldington area of Bedford. I offer both in person and online sessions. I work from a beautiful, peaceful, purpose-built therapy room in my garden.
I am an integrative therapist which means I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to meet your individual needs. My work is informed by psychodynamic, person-centred and existential approaches, allowing us to explore your experiences in a way that feels most helpful for you.
I believe therapy is relational. The relationship we build together is not simply a part of the work, but the work itself. I aim to offer a warm, safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can feel genuinely heard and supported. Together, we can explore your thoughts, feelings, experiences and relationships, with curiosity and compassion.
I will not give you advice or tell you what you should do. Instead, we will work collaboratively, drawing on my experience and perspective alongside your own knowledge of yourself and your life. We can explore patterns that may have developed over time, make sense of difficult experiences, and consider what might help you move towards greater self-awareness, confidence and a life that feels more authentic to you.
For some people, having specific goals is helpful, while for others therapy is more about having space to reflect, process and understand themselves. We can discuss what you are hoping for from therapy and revisit this as our work develops.
I offer open-ended therapy, with regular reviews so that we can consider how things are progressing and whether continuing feels helpful. When the time is right, we will work towards ending therapy thoughtfully and collaboratively.
Practice description
Welcome. I am Lucy Bishop (she/her), an integrative therapist working with adults from my purpose-built garden therapy room in the Goldington area of Bedford. I also offer online sessions for those who prefer or need to meet remotely.
People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. You might be feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, anxious or low, or be navigating grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, questions around identity, intimacy or sexuality, chronic illness, or your experience of neurodiversity. Sometimes there is a clear reason for seeking support; at other times, it may simply be a feeling that something does not quite feel right.
Whatever brings you to therapy, I do not believe you can be reduced to a diagnosis, label or list of difficulties. I am interested in you as a whole person and in understanding your experiences within the context of your life and relationships.
My approach is warm, calm and collaborative. I offer a space where you can be honest, curious and vulnerable without fear of judgement. We can take time to understand what you are experiencing, explore patterns that may no longer be serving you, and consider what meaningful change might look like for you.
I offer open-ended individual therapy at £55 per 50-minute session. I have two low-cost concessionary spaces available and offer a reduced rate of £45 per session for student counsellors seeking personal therapy. Please enquire about availability.
All sessions take place in my garden therapy room or online. I aim to create a welcoming, private and comfortable environment where you can feel at ease.
My first session
Choosing a therapist is an important decision, so I offer a free, no-obligation 30-minute first session. This can take place in my garden therapy room, by telephone or online via Teams.
I think of this first meeting as an opportunity to get to know each other and see whether we feel like a good fit to work together. We can talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you might be hoping for, and any questions you have about the process. There is no obligation to continue.
Before this first session, I will ask you to complete a brief client intake form. This gives me some basic information, including your contact and emergency contact details, a little about what brings you to therapy, relevant medical information such as allergies or medication, a short risk assessment, and your GP's name and contact details.
I will also send you my therapeutic contract and privacy policy to read before we meet. If you decide you would like to continue into paid sessions, I ask you to sign and return the therapeutic contract before we arrange your first 50-minute therapy session.
Individual therapy is £55 per 50-minute session. I also have two low-cost concessionary spaces available, and offer sessions at £45 for student counsellors seeking personal therapy. Please enquire about availability.
