About me and my therapy practice
"I should be over this by now."
"I don't want to burden my family."
"No one understands."
"Is it normal to still feel like this?"
If any of this sounds familiar, you're not alone. Grief can leave you exhausted, overwhelmed and carrying feelings that you can't really say out loud: sadness, anger, regret, and often guilt and shame.
Guilt about what you did or didn't do and shame about how you're grieving, or how long it's affecting you, you are worried you should ‘be over’ this by now. There’s also a sense that the people around you just don't understand what you've lost.
You don’t want to keep talking to those around you about your loss as you just feel you are constantly burdening them with your sadness.
How counselling can help:
Counselling gives you the place you need where you don't have to hold it all together. You don't need to protect me from your darkest thoughts as when we work together, the things that feel unspeakable can be spoken about and understood, including the thoughts of not wanting to be here and just wanting to be with your loved one.
Through our work together, you may begin to:
• feel lighter, because you're no longer carrying everything alone
• talk openly without worrying about burdening family or friends
• discover that other people feel this way too, and that you're not "doing grief wrong"
• feel that your grief, anger, guilt and shame have been heard and understood
• notice small glimmers of hope and life again
• laugh or feel joy without feeling guilty
• learn to carry your grief while continuing to live
When we work together, there's no pressure to move on from your grief or to "fix" it. Grief can change you as a person, your friendships and relationships, and your sense of identity. It's a whole-body experience that affects you emotionally, mentally and physically.
By reaching out, you can be assured that you don't have to find your way through this alone. Together, we can make sense of your grief and find some hope, even in the darkest times.
Practice description
I'm a grief counsellor based in Ipswich, Suffolk.
Alongside my private practice, I work as a counsellor in a hospice, supporting people living with life-limiting illness, their carers, and bereaved families. I began as a grief coach before training as a counsellor. Having both means I can support you wherever you are: whether you need the space to process painful feelings, or perhaps are ready for more practical steps to rebuild. No two people grieve in the same way, so I draw on different counselling approaches and shape our work around what you need.
The grief journey can be long and unpredictable, but together we can find the glimmers in your day again.
My first session
Areas I work with:
Bereavement, including the loss of parents, siblings, family members and friends. Anticipatory grief and caring for someone. Living with a life-limiting illness. Sudden and traumatic loss, including bereavement by suicide, road traffic accidents, terrorism and murder. Disenfranchised grief, including estrangement, divorce and pet loss. Prolonged or complicated grief, when you feel stuck and can't see it changing.
I’ll support you to try and find some joy in your life again whilst learning to live with all that grief can throw at us.
You don't need to have it all figured out before you get in touch. Book a free, no-obligation 20-minute chat to talk about what you need and whether I'm the right counsellor for you.
You can contact me through this site, via my website or by email, and I'll aim to reply within 2 working days.
