About me and my therapy practice
I’m Liz, a BACP Registered Integrative Psychotherapist offering Walk and Talk therapy in beautiful natural settings around Barton-under-Needwood and Burton upon Trent, including woodland just outside Lichfield and canal-side walks near Derby.
As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I draw on different therapeutic approaches to meet you as an individual, rather than expecting you to fit into a particular way of working. My approach is warm, gentle and down-to-earth, and I believe therapy should be a space where you can feel comfortable being yourself. Therapy doesn’t always have to mean sitting opposite someone in a traditional therapy room. Walking side by side, surrounded by nature, can create a little more space to breathe, think and talk, and for some people, it feels easier to open up when we’re moving rather than sitting face-to-face.
I won’t tell you what you should do or give you a list of solutions. Instead, I’ll walk alongside you, helping you make sense of what you’re experiencing and find your own way forward. Where helpful, I may also use psychoeducation, practical exercises or simple ideas to explore between sessions.
People come to me for many different reasons, including anxiety, stress and overwhelm, low mood, self-esteem, burnout, grief, relationships and periods of change or uncertainty. You don’t need to know exactly what you need from therapy before we begin.
I also bring 18 years of experience in education and five years of Forest School experience to my work, giving me particular insight into young people, SEND and the importance of creating spaces where people can feel safe, accepted and able to be themselves.
Walk, Talk, Breathe.
Practice description
The first step is an initial call, giving us a chance to get to know each other, talk about what has brought you to therapy and answer any questions you may have. It’s also an opportunity for us both to get a sense of whether we’re a good fit before arranging your first in-person session.
Walk and Talk sessions take place at a variety of carefully chosen outdoor locations, offering a peaceful and secluded feel while still being easily accessible from nearby towns. These natural settings provide space for a private, uninterrupted session, away from the distractions of everyday life.
We’ll walk at a comfortable pace, stopping when we need to, and you can talk as much or as little as feels right. There’s no need to have everything worked out before you arrive. We can simply start wherever you are and see where the conversation takes us.
Sessions are usually one hour and take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 8.30am and 5pm, subject to daylight and seasonal weather conditions.
You can find further information about Walk & Talk therapy, the locations and what to expect on my website, where I also have videos to give you a better feel for how it works.
Once we’ve had our initial call, we can arrange your first session at one of my Walk and Talk locations.
My first session
Before your first session, I’ll send you some paperwork to complete, including the information I need to get started with our work together.
There is no separate assessment session or assessment fee. Your first session is charged at my usual rate of £55. You can also pay for a block of 6 sessions at a discounted rate.
We’ll then begin our work together from wherever feels most appropriate for you.
