About me and my therapy practice
Perhaps you’ve spent a long time looking after everyone else and have reached a point where you would like some time and space for yourself.
You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck. Perhaps something has happened in your life that has left you struggling to make sense of things. Or maybe you can't quite put your finger on what is wrong; you just know that things don't feel as they should.
Whatever brings you to counselling, you don't need to have the answers before we begin.
I offer a warm, accepting, and non-judgemental space where you can be yourself. My aim is to listen carefully to your experience and to understand the world from your perspective. In which we will work together to explore what you need and what might be helpful
Practice description
I am a BACP registered counsellor and practise using a pluralistic approach. This means that I believe there is no single therapeutic approach that works for everyone. We are all different, and what is helpful for one person may not be helpful for another.
Our relationship is an important part of the work. I will be alongside you. We can talk about what is happening for you now, explore experiences from the past where this feels useful, and consider patterns in your relationships, thoughts and feelings.
I draw on person-centred, relational and attachment-informed approaches and, where appropriate, creative and experiential ways of working. We will always discuss how we work together, working in partnership to provide individualised support that is best suited to your needs.
For me, counselling is about developing a greater understanding of yourself, making sense of your experiences and finding ways of moving forward that feel right for you.
My first session
Coming to counselling for the first time can feel daunting. You may wonder what you are supposed to say or whether your problems are "big enough" to warrant counselling. Or feel so big it's hard to know where to start!
There is no test you need to pass and no right way to begin.
We can start with whatever feels most important to you.
My hope is that counselling becomes a space where you can slow down, be heard and begin to understand yourself with greater kindness and curiosity.
If you feel that I might be someone you could work with, please get in touch. We can have an initial 30-minute conversation about what you are looking for and whether working together feels like the right fit.
