About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Denise.

Through Mind Grace Therapy, I offer a warm, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can feel heard, understood and supported at a pace that feels right for you.

Whatever has brought you to counselling, you don't have to face it alone. I believe every person has their own unique story, and that counselling should be shaped around you, your experiences and what feels important to you.

Through my work in wellbeing and counselling, I have supported adults as they navigate a range of life experiences and challenges. These experiences have strengthened my belief in the importance of meeting each person as an individual, with warmth, empathy and openness. I aim to build a therapeutic relationship where you feel respected, accepted and able to explore whatever feels important to you, without fear of judgement.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent over twelve years supporting people's wellbeing through my Pilates, yoga and mindfulness business. I worked with people from a wide range of backgrounds and life stages, creating spaces where they could reconnect with themselves, build confidence and nurture their wellbeing.

Through this work, I developed a deeper appreciation of the connection between physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as an interest in the thoughts, feelings and experiences that shape how we see ourselves. This gradually led me towards counselling and a desire to support people in a different, more in-depth way.

Today, I bring together my background in wellbeing, mindfulness and counselling to inform my pluralistic approach. I recognise that there is no single way of working that suits everyone, and I believe counselling should be tailored to your individual needs and preferences. I work collaboratively with you to explore what feels most helpful, adapting our work as your needs and understanding develop.

Practice description

My approach

My approach is pluralistic, which means I recognise that there is no single way of working that suits everyone. Each person brings their own history, values, strengths and challenges, and counselling should reflect what feels important to you.

I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace, without pressure to have everything figured out or to know where to begin.

Our work together may involve exploring patterns in your thoughts and feelings, developing greater self-awareness and self-compassion, or finding ways to navigate difficult emotions and experiences.

I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including person-centred, cognitive, psychodynamic and mindfulness-based approaches. We can explore what feels most helpful for you and adapt our work as your needs and understanding develop.

I recognise that reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step. My aim is to meet you where you are, with curiosity, empathy and respect, supporting you to make sense of your experiences and explore a way forward that feels meaningful to you.

Qualifications and memberships

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Aberdeen (COSCA accredited) and am currently completing an MSc in Children and Young Persons Counselling.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am committed to ongoing professional development and ethical practice.

Who I work with

I work with adults, offering online counselling across the UK and in-person sessions in Westhill, Aberdeenshire.

My first session

Beginning counselling can bring up a range of feelings, and you may feel nervous, uncertain or unsure where to begin. Our first session is an opportunity to start exploring what has brought you to counselling and what you would like support with.

There is no pressure to have everything figured out or to know exactly where to begin. We can take things at your pace, giving you space to talk about whatever feels important to you. You are welcome to share as much or as little as feels comfortable.

We may explore what has been happening in your life, what you hope to gain from counselling, and what feels important for us to focus on. If it feels helpful to you, we may also begin to develop a timeline of significant life experiences, creating an opportunity to explore your story and the experiences that have shaped you. This is entirely optional, and we can work in whatever way feels most comfortable and useful for you.

As a pluralistic counsellor, I believe counselling works best as a collaborative process. We can explore what you feel might be helpful and how we can shape our work around your individual needs.

Building a trusting therapeutic relationship takes time, and there is no expectation that you need to talk about everything straight away. My aim is to offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where we can begin our work together at a pace that feels right for you.
