About me and my therapy practice

I have completed over 300 hours of clinical practice as part of a Masters course in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy. These settings have included a domestic abuse charity, an open-ended affordable therapy organisation and short term third sector charities. I have also accrued nearly 3 years of NHS experience working with Severe Mental Illness (SMI) in the community and also working in Talking Therapies. These experiences have shaped my understanding of the different circumstances people bring.

My work is grounded in integrative counselling. This means I draw on ideas and methods from evidence-based therapeutic approaches, shaping work around your needs, experiences and goals rather than following a single model. These approaches are Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory and Person-Centred Approach. Underpinning these approaches, I have also been trained in Compassiona Focussed Therapy (CFT), offering gentle diffusion of cognitive distortions.

I aim to offer a respectful, collaborative space where I can explore what is happening for you and what you would like to change. I use the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) as one way of understanding readiness for change and reviewing progress together. It can help me notice where you are in the process, recognise shifts over time and consider what might be helpful. Your experience remains central, and I can adapt the work as your needs change.

I see therapy as a collaborative process. I can take time to understand what has brought you to counselling, what you hope might change, and what feels manageable to explore. Some people arrive with a clear focus, while others are unsure where to begin; we can work that out together.

I pay attention to how the work is feeling for you and make space to review our progress. I aim to offer a respectful relationship in which you can speak openly and feel that your perspective is taken seriously.

Practice description

If anxiety, low mood or stress is affecting your life, it can help to have a confidential and safe space where you can talk things through without judgement. I offer psychotherapy to adults in Nottingham and Sheffield, supporting people who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, bereavement, life changes or a sense of feeling stuck.

Starting therapy can feel daunting. I take things at your pace and explore what is troubling you, what may be contributing to it, and what might help you move forward by exploring emotions, behaviours, thoughts and environments. My approach offers compassion through an integrative lens and I aim to offer a thoughtful, respectful space where you can feel heard and understood.

People come to therapy for many reasons. You may be looking for help with anxious thoughts, panic, stress at work, low self-esteem, family or relationship issues, or concerns about your mental health. You don’t need to have everything figured out before getting in touch.

I work with adults, young people (16+) and can offer in-person therapy, as well as online and telephone sessions. I am a BACP registered psychotherapist with experience in managing a range of presenting issues such as;

If you’d like to find out whether we might work well together, you’re welcome to contact me for an initial conversation.

My first session

In our first session, we’ll talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you hope to see change, and what would help you feel safe and supported. I’ll ask about your current circumstances and relevant history, and we can begin setting goals together. These can be revisited as our work develops.

I’ll also ask what helps you take in and use information, and whether you have any learning or access needs. For example, you may prefer to talk things through, use visual or written materials, or learn through practical exercises. I can adapt the way I work to suit you by exploring reasonable adjustments.

Where appropriate, I’ll ask about risk and immediate safety in a sensitive, collaborative way. If safety is a concern, we can consider practical safety planning together, however I am not a crisis service. I work in a trauma-informed way, paying attention to choice, pace and what feels manageable. We can explore regulation strategies and, when helpful, use the steadiness of the therapeutic relationship to support co-regulation.

You’re welcome to ask questions about how I work, confidentiality and the practical arrangements for sessions. There’s no expectation that you share more than feels comfortable in a first meeting.
