About me and my therapy practice

My name is Yiran Elaine. I'm a BACP registered integrative therapist in London with clinical experiences in the NHS and Mind Charity.

You might be here because you want to talk about things, maybe there are things you want to change in your life. I offer a safe and confidential space where we can explore anything you bring, while always respecting your autonomy and pace. I hope to walk alongside you as a person with a different pair of eyes. With both our knowledge combined, we can be a team to support your growth.

Having lived in China and the UK, I understand the complexity of how people experience life, identity and relationship. I support clients in mid to long term counselling to explore emotional and relationship patterns, childhood and past experiences, family dynamics, identity, and mental health conditions. We will work through the challenges together.

Starting counselling is a significant step and can sometimes feel daunting, especially when you are speaking to someone new. If you feel this might be the right kind of support for you, please do get in touch. I look forward to getting to know you.

Practice description

As an integrative therapist, I bring together ideas and techniques from more than one counselling theory, while placing the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client at the centre of my work.

I frequently draw from theories including Person Centred Theory, Psychodynamic Theory and Transactional Analysis. I will use these to support collaborative, reflective and exploratory sessions with you. You will receive personalised care according to your own needs.

I have additional training in trauma-informed practices. With my experience in mental health crisis intervention, I have broad knowledge of the presentations of mental health problems and of working with people with past or current suicidal ideation and self-harm.

My first session

As we humans are so complex, you might want to talk about a single topic, or most likely, many topics. I will get to know your needs and aims for therapy, and we will work together to help you get closer to where you want to be.

In our first session, we will first talk about our contract. This includes the practical side: time, format, location, fee, cancellation policy, etc. We will also talk about the therapeutic contract: what you would like to get out of therapy, what your aims are, any preferences or needs that I should know about, and more.

In discussing the above, we would probably have started talking about the matter that brought you to therapy. We may initially agree to, for example, six to eight sessions and have a review of how you feel about it so far. Some clients may choose to have ten to twenty sessions and feel ready to leave; some stayed with me for more than a year and are still continuing. There is no right or wrong, only what is helpful for you.
