I am currently welcoming new clients, with sessions available in person in St Thomas and Sowton, Exeter, as well as online.
Please get in touch to arrange a free discovery call, where we can talk about what you are looking for and explore whether working together feels right for you.
About me and my therapy practice
I work with adults who may have spent so long putting others first, meeting expectations or simply getting on with things that they've lost touch with themselves.
You might appear to be coping on the outside, while underneath feeling unsure of yourself, struggling with self-worth or confidence, or questioning what you really want.
You may be navigating relationship difficulties, coming to terms with loss or finding your way through a life change.
Sometimes you know something needs to change without knowing where to begin.
I create a safe space for you to feel seen, heard and supported, with the freedom to explore your experiences without feeling you need to have all the answers.
My background in education, including working with children and young people with additional needs, has shaped my understanding that we all experience the world differently. I recognise the importance of adapting how I work to meet individual needs and finding ways of communicating that feel comfortable and right for you.
I believe there is hope, even when life feels overwhelming, difficult or confusing. Sometimes, taking time to understand our experiences can help us find our way back to ourselves, discover parts of ourselves we may have lost touch with, or begin to understand who we are for the first time.
Practice description
My counselling is person-centred, meaning you and your experiences guide our sessions. I also draw on other therapeutic approaches, including CBT, Gestalt and psychodynamic ideas, where these may be helpful. I adapt my approach to you, taking time to understand what feels important and working at a pace that feels comfortable.
Counselling doesn't have to be just about talking. Sometimes it can be difficult to find the right words for what you're feeling, so I may offer creative resources such as images, cards, music, drawing or writing to help explore things in a different way. You don't need to be artistic, and there's no expectation to sit perfectly still or know exactly what to say. We can find a way of working that feels right for you.
I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental relationship where you can bring whatever is going on for you. This might mean exploring difficult feelings, making sense of familiar patterns, understanding your needs or finding a different perspective on things.
My first session
Following our free discovery call, our first counselling session will include going through the counselling agreement and beginning to explore a little more about you, your experiences and what may have brought you to counselling.
There is no pressure to share everything at once or to have all the answers. We can take our time, and there will be space for you to ask questions and talk about anything you are unsure of.
