About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Vicky Begg of The Sports Counsel. By combining my experience as a CBT counsellor with endurance sports coaching and specialist sports psychology knowledge, we will unlock barriers, harness your unique potential, and help you succeed. My CBT counselling services and sport psychology support are based on creating a trusting two-way relationship. This means you are central to the process, and we work together. Your views and reasons for seeking support are accepted without judgement and your well-being, autonomy, and progress are supported at your pace. Achieving your life and sport-related goals and overcoming your barriers is my focus. We can work one-to-one; in person, via video or phone call based on your preference.

I offer an empathetic, non-judgemental experience to clients. This is complimented by over 15 years cumulative professional experience working as a coach, a coach tutor, and now as a CBT Counsellor specialising in psychology of sport. This is combined with a lifetime of participation in multi-discipline endurance sport.

What’s my philosophy? Maximise individual success, improve clients’ lives, and take down psychological barriers to enable and empower people who love and live to be active.

PG DipCBT Counsellor, COSCA Counselling Skills, MSc Psychology of Sport, HPCP (high performance) Triathlon Coach, Coach Tutor (Triathlon Scotland), B Des Printed Textiles, MA Textile Design. I am a member of COSCA, UK Coaching and a registered member of BACP. My profile can be found on Psychology Today and I also run a little business called Kirkintilloch Counselling for clients looking for empathetic, compassionate support who have less interest in an active lifestyle.

Practice description

You can choose to work with me in person from one of two main locations; The Wellbeing Rooms in Bearsden (North Glasgow), or from Baltic Chambers in Glasgow City Centre. Both of the therapy spaces I work from are warm, comfortable, beautifully appointed, safe, and peaceful. They are used only for the purpose of therapy ensuring your experience is in keeping with your expectations.  You can also work with me online or over the telephone.

My hours of business are mostly the beginning of the week, Monday to Wednesday until lunchtime, and a Thursday evening. More details are shown in my profile. It is always worth getting in touch with me if the times indicated don't suit you.

My first session

You may want to have a brief introductory telephone or video call session before your first full session. I am happy to offer this free of charge for 20mins. This helps you hear me and, or, see me to get a feel for whether I am the right therapist for you.

In your first full session we will gather information about why you have come to therapy and this might include questionnaires about general aspects of your health and wellbeing.

Mostly it is about you expressing your hopes and allows us to begin to think about how your therapy will develop.

About me and my therapy practice

Psychotherapy and counselling can help you understand the challenges you face and show you steps you can take to make things better. I am Vicky Begg, your therapist at Kirkintilloch Counselling, PG DipCBT, COSCA Counselling Skills, MSc Psychology of Sport.

You will be supported and guided by me through therapy to understand how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are connected.

Are you struggling with relationships, work or social situations, bereavement, trauma, addictions, eating or food and mood related issues, self esteem, appearance and confidence?

Are you experiencing low mood, anxiety, anger, stress, or uncharacteristic behaviour?

Are you sleeping badly, tired, or always worrying?

If you are dealing with any of these symptoms you are not alone and yes, I will listen. While these might feel like common issues it is important to note they are now happening to you. If you are not used to feeling this way, or if it feels as though these concerns have become overwhelming or dominate most of your thoughts seeking help can set you back on a path to being you again.
