About me and my therapy practice
About Me
I'm Alexandra, a Level 7 qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist with a background in Psychology and over 18 years of experience working in education. Alongside my professional training, I bring the lived experience of being both a parent and a carer, experiences that have deepened my understanding of resilience, overwhelm, loss, responsibility, and the importance of having support when life feels challenging.
Throughout my career, I have worked closely with children, young people, families, and individuals from a wide range of backgrounds. I have supported people through periods of change, uncertainty, emotional difficulty, and personal growth. These experiences, together with my counselling training, have given me a deep appreciation of both the struggles people face and the strength they often carry within themselves.
Clients often describe me as calm, approachable, warm, and easy to talk to. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is at the heart of effective counselling, and I strive to create a space where you feel heard, accepted, and valued exactly as you are.
How I Work
My practice is grounded in the person-centred approach, which places you at the heart of the therapeutic process. I trust that you are the expert on your own life, and my role is not to advise or direct, but to support you in exploring your experiences and finding your own understanding.
In our work together:
You set the pace.
You decide what feels important to explore.
I offer empathy, acceptance, and honest reflection.
We work collaboratively and without judgement.
Your experiences, values, and choices are respected throughout.
I believe therapy is not about fixing what is wrong. Instead, it is about developing greater self-awareness, understanding patterns and experiences, and creating the conditions for meaningful change.
Practice description
My Practice
Grounded Within is a warm and authentic counselling practice offering both online and face-to-face therapy. It is founded on the belief that life is a journey, one that can sometimes feel uncertain, overwhelming, or difficult to navigate.
The name Grounded Within reflects the values at the heart of my work: stability, authenticity, self-awareness, and hope. Inspired by the restorative qualities of nature, it evokes images of footpaths, forests, rolling hills, and sunrise moments, reminding us that even when the way forward is unclear, there is always the possibility of movement, growth, and new perspective.
Grounded Within Counselling offers an opportunity to step away from life's demands and create space for reflection. Whether you are facing anxiety, loss, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, life transitions, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, counselling can provide the time and support needed to better understand your experiences and discover what matters most to you.
Sessions are warm, thoughtful, and reflective. My aim is to provide a steady, supportive presence that allows you to explore difficult feelings, gain insight, and move forward with greater confidence and clarity.
"Your life is a journey. You don't have to navigate every step alone."
My first session
Before our first session, I will ask you to complete an initial assessment form. This provides some background information and helps me gain an understanding of what has brought you to counselling. If anything significant emerges from the form, we may spend some time exploring this together during our first meeting.
The first session is primarily a gentle opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a therapeutic relationship. We will go through the counselling agreement, discuss how I work, explain confidentiality and its limits, and answer any questions you may have about the counselling process. This is your chance to decide whether I feel like the right therapist for you.
There is no expectation to share everything straight away. Some clients prefer to take things slowly, while others arrive ready to talk about the challenges that have brought them to therapy. Both approaches are completely welcome.
Although the first session is often focused on introductions and practical information, it can sometimes feel emotional or heavier than expected. Beginning therapy can bring difficult feelings to the surface, and talking openly about personal experiences may leave you feeling tired, reflective, or vulnerable afterwards.
For this reason, I always encourage clients to be especially kind to themselves following their first session. If possible, allow yourself some time afterwards for rest, reflection, or self-care, whether that means taking a walk, journalling, spending time in nature, connecting with supportive people, or simply giving yourself permission to slow down.
Starting therapy is a significant step. Whatever brings you here, you do not need to have everything figured out. We will begin wherever you are, and move forward at a pace that feels right for you.
