About me and my therapy practice

My Approach to Counselling

As a pluralistic counsellor, I believe that everyone is different, and that there is no single approach to counselling that works for everyone. We all have our own experiences, challenges, strengths and ways of making sense of the world. My aim is to offer a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental space where you feel heard, understood and able to explore whatever has brought you to counselling.

I work collaboratively, which means that we work together to understand what you need from counselling and what you hope to achieve. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I recognise that you are the expert on your own life. My role is to support you in exploring your thoughts, feelings and experiences, helping you develop greater self-awareness and find ways forward that feel right for you.

Pluralistic counselling is about recognising that different people benefit from different therapeutic approaches. I draw on a range of counselling theories and techniques, adapting my work to suit your individual needs, preferences and circumstances. We can regularly review how you feel counselling is working for you and make changes together if needed.

I believe the therapeutic relationship is central to effective counselling. Building trust, feeling comfortable and knowing that you can speak openly without fear of judgement are important parts of our work together.

Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, the impact of trauma, neurodiversity or the challenges of living with chronic illness or pain, I aim to meet you where you are.

My approach is warm, genuine and down-to-earth. I won't tell you how to live your life or assume I have all the answers. Instead, I will walk alongside you, offering support, curiosity and understanding as we explore what matters to you and work towards the changes you would like to make.

Ultimately, counselling is about you.

Practice description

My counselling practice offers a warm, welcoming and non-judgemental space where you can feel comfortable being yourself, talking openly and exploring whatever may be troubling you.

I aim to offer a space where you feel heard, understood and accepted without fear of judgement. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, stress, depression, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, trauma, chronic illness, pain or simply feeling stuck, we can explore these experiences together at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

You can expect me to:

Listen without judgement: I will give you the time and space to talk openly about whatever is important to you.

Work collaboratively: We will decide together what you would like to explore and what you hope to gain from counselling.

Respect your individuality: I won't assume that what works for one person will necessarily work for you.

Be genuine and approachable: I believe in building an honest, trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel able to be yourself.

Work at your pace: There is no pressure to talk about things before you feel ready.

My intention is not to provide you with all the answers or tell you what you should do. Instead, I hope to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, recognise your strengths, explore different perspectives and find ways of moving forward that feel right for you.

I believe counselling is a journey that we take together. Sometimes this might involve exploring past experiences, sometimes understanding what is happening in your life right now, and sometimes looking towards the future and the changes you would like to make.

There is no expectation that you need to arrive with everything figured out or even know exactly what you want to talk about. You can bring whatever is on your mind, and we can work it out together.

Above all, I want my practice to be a place where you feel safe, respected, valued and accepted for who you are.

My first session

I offer a no obligation 15-minute introductory consultation to give us an opportunity to meet, have a chat and explore whether working together feels right for you.

During our conversation, you can:

Tell me a little about what has brought you to consider counselling, if you feel comfortable doing so.

Ask me any questions about counselling and how I work as a pluralistic counsellor.

Find out what you can expect from working with me, including how sessions are structured.

Talk about what you would like to get from counselling and what you hope might change.

Get a feel for whether you feel comfortable and able to build a trusting therapeutic relationship with me.

This isn't a counselling session, and there is no expectation to go into detail about personal difficulties or experiences. It's simply an opportunity to get a sense of who I am and how I might be able to support you.

As a pluralistic counsellor, I believe that everyone is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to counselling. I value working collaboratively, listening to what matters to you and finding an approach that feels helpful and right for your individual needs.

There is absolutely no pressure or obligation to book further sessions. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable, heard and able to make an informed decision about whether counselling with me is right for you.
