About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Angie, an integrative counsellor and registered member of the BACP. I offer a warm, accepting space where you can talk openly, feel heard and begin to make sense of whatever has brought you to counselling. You don’t need to have the right words or know where to start.
You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed or low, experiencing difficulties in relationships, living with loss, or wondering how your childhood experiences continue to affect you. Whatever you bring, we will explore it together at a pace that feels manageable for you.
My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different counselling approaches to suit you as an individual. I work relationally, placing importance on the trust we build together. Where helpful, we can explore how earlier experiences and relationships may shape your feelings, responses and relationships today.
As a retired midwife and fertility practitioner, I also bring experience of supporting people through deeply personal and sometimes painful life events, including fertility difficulties, miscarriage and birth experiences. My experience in funeral care has further shaped my sensitivity to grief and bereavement.
I welcome adults of all genders and backgrounds. You do not have to be in crisis to seek support; you may simply want space to understand yourself better, explore patterns or find a way forward that feels right for you.
Practice description
I offer individual counselling for adults, face to face and online. Sessions last 50 minutes, with appointment times agreed together.
Our sessions are a space for you to bring whatever is on your mind, including feelings or experiences that may be difficult to share elsewhere. You won’t be expected to tell your whole story straight away. We will take time to get to know one another, and you can decide what you feel ready to explore.
I will listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions and help you reflect on your experiences. Together, we can begin to understand patterns, consider what matters to you and explore changes you may wish to make. You are welcome to tell me what feels helpful and what doesn’t.
At the beginning, we will talk about what you hope to gain from counselling and agree how we will work together, including confidentiality and its limits. We will review how you are finding the sessions as we go, and discuss the frequency and length of our work together.
I offer a discounted rate for students and have two reduced-fee places for people who would otherwise struggle to afford counselling, subject to availability. Please feel welcome to ask about these when you enquire.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for us to meet, talk about what has brought you to counselling and explore what you would like support with. It is also a chance for you to get a sense of how I work and whether you feel comfortable with me.
It’s natural to feel nervous, and you don’t need to know exactly what to say. We will go at your pace, and you won’t be expected to share everything straight away.
Before we meet, I can email you a short questionnaire to help me understand your circumstances and what you hope to gain from counselling. You only need to share what you feel comfortable with, and we can talk through the questions together if you prefer. There is no other preparation needed.
During our first session, we will explore your current needs and any previous experience of counselling. We will also discuss confidentiality and its limits, fees and practical arrangements, with time for any questions you may have.
There is no obligation to book further sessions. If we both feel that working together would be helpful, we can agree how to move forward.
