About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Rebecca. I’m an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist working with adults in Leeds city centre and online.
I offer a warm, welcoming space to make sense of what’s happening in your life. You might be facing something difficult, feeling caught in familiar patterns or wanting to understand yourself better and find a way forward.
My approach is thoughtful and collaborative. Together, we can explore how past and current experiences may be influencing your life now and work towards the changes you would like to make, helping you build a life that feels more fulfilling
What I can help with
I support people experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, bereavement, low self-esteem or difficulties with self-worth, questions around identity, significant life changes and the emotional impact of health difficulties.
My experience includes counselling and community support work with adults from a wide range of backgrounds. I have considerable experience supporting people affected by domestic abuse and coercive control, including men and women.
About me
I’m interested in people and their stories, and in seeing the person, not simply the problem. I bring warmth, curiosity and openness to sessions, with room for humour as well as difficult feelings. You don’t need to know exactly what you want to say or where to begin.
Before training as a therapist, I studied English and Communication Arts. That interest in how we express and understand our experiences continues to influence my work.
Music has also played an important part in my life. My MA research explored how music connects with emotion, memory and personal experience, including how it can become part of talking therapy. This strengthened my interest in creative ways of exploring experiences that are difficult to put into words.
Practice description
My approach
I’m an integrative therapist, drawing on different approaches to suit your needs. The relationship we build is central to our work. I bring my training, experience and perspective, while you bring your knowledge of yourself and your life.
Person-centred therapy provides the foundation of my work, with empathy, acceptance and openness to your experience. Psychodynamic and attachment perspectives help us explore connections between earlier experiences, relationships and what is happening now.
I also draw on elements of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and solution-focused therapy. These offer practical ways to understand thoughts, feelings and behaviours, manage difficulties and take steps towards the changes you want to make.
Working with traumatic experiences
I have experience supporting people with the lasting impact of traumatic experiences, alongside further training in trauma, PTSD and C-PTSD. Together, we can explore how what has happened is affecting your life now. I work sensitively with pace and choice, supporting you to develop a greater sense of safety and stability, work through what has happened and reduce their hold on the here and now.
Our work can move between past, present and future. Where helpful, we can also look at creative ways to explore experiences that are difficult to put into words.
Additional professional development
My further training includes:
• Trauma-informed practice, PTSD, C-PTSD and flashbacks
• CBT, ACT and solution-focused therapy
• Anxiety, depression and compassion-focused therapy
• Domestic abuse and coercive control
• Suicide and self-harm, including ASIST
• Guided imagery, inner child work, dreams and nightmares
• Rewind Technique for traumatic memories
• Chronic health conditions, ADHD and autism
My first session
Free initial consultation
Before your first session, I offer a free 20-minute consultation. We can discuss what you are looking for, how I work and any questions you have about starting therapy. This gives us both an opportunity to consider whether working together feels right for you.
We can also discuss practical arrangements, including appointment times, fees and whether you would prefer weekly or fortnightly sessions.
Your first therapy session
Our first session gives us more time to understand what has brought you to counselling, how it is affecting your life and what you would like to change.
We can talk about your current circumstances and relevant experiences, including any previous support you have had. You don’t need to prepare anything or explain everything at once. We can begin with what feels important to you.
Our sessions are confidential, offering space to explore your experiences, thoughts and feelings.
Together, we will begin to establish a focus for our work. You may already know what you want to work on, or this may become clearer as we talk. We can develop this together and review it as therapy progresses.
