About me and my therapy practice

ABOUT ME:

Hello, my name is Caz, and I am highly experienced counsellor, psychotherapist and author, with past experience working for the NHS.

My hope is that clients see in me a ‘real’ person who will put the relationship at the heart of the work. As both a writer (and someone who’s previously worked in the creative world), and, a specialist in anxiety and self-worth, I take a keen interest in the pressure some careers can have on people, especially around self-esteem, perfectionism, disappointment, and anxiety.

I work in an integrative way to suit each client's needs. Integrative counselling combines different elements of psychological theory to enable flexibility and greater exploration in the work. People respond to different styles, and I am pleased to be trained in the following disciplines:

*Gestalt *Existential *Psychodynamic *Mindfulness *CBT *Person-centred *Transpersonal *TA

I have also studied, and subsequently taught, Mindfulness Psychotherapy at the renowned OMC, based at the University of Oxford. As such, I offer MBCT, CBT and ACT for those looking for practical, techniques to help manage present day symptoms.

Above all, I work relationally, and aim to create a safe and trusting space for all my clients.

ABOUT THERAPY: People come to therapy for lots of different reasons - struggling with a lack of confidence, or trying to cope with life circumstance such as a bereavement or relationship issues. Sometimes we feel down or stuck, or that anxiety is taking over our lives. Sometimes, life just doesn’t seem what it ‘should’ be. This can feel overwhelming, difficult, confusing, isolating… Loss and change is a fundamental, yet often difficult, part of life. Many people who seek counselling do so because there is a transition in their life that they are struggling to cope with. Life is an ever-changing process and this can be a struggle for all humans – something that connects us wherever we are in the world.

Practice description

SPECIALISED SERVICES:

I have a special interest in working with anxiety and stress, as well as anxiety disorders such as OCD, panic attacks, social anxiety, and related issues such as low self-worth, self-criticism, perfectionism and shyness (to name but a few). Anxiety is a natural part of life, but for some people, it can take over their lives. A build up over time of anxiety or stress, can also often lead to ensuing questions around self-identity and self-esteem. I know how difficult it can be to live a healthy and productive life if you are feeling stressed or anxious, and the effect it can have on ourselves and our relationships. I use a variety of methods - working on everyday techniques to manage in the present, whilst also addressing anything underlying; looking to improve your life overall, and prevent issues returning in the long-term.

I also have specialised experience in working with bereavement, loss and grief: Losing someone unique is hard, and being able to express your feelings and thoughts after a bereavement is extremely important. Whether it is a past or recent loss, we can work through how this has affected you and the wide range of feelings that can surface.

HOW I CAN HELP…..

Whether it’s feeling unhappy with ourselves, our job, relationships, or life in general, I am fully aware of how hard it can be for people to make sense of, or get beyond these experiences. When you take the big step to visit a counsellor, you are moving one step closer to becoming at one with yourself – creating a possibility to explore what is going on, and beginning to realise your potential as the unique human being that you are.

I invite clients to come for an initial session. Here, you can tell me more about yourself, and see what working with me might be like. If we decide to proceed, I hope you will experience a passionate, dedicated and authentic therapist who works with you to navigate difficulties, and bring about a better quality of life moving forward. I can provide an environment for growth and understanding, where we can work together to express and explore feelings. As we will hold weekly sessions together, a regular and constant base is provided for you to bring whatever you feel is important each week. Most importantly, you will feel listened to and supported in our work together.
